I constantly show a 3 missed calls icon up top, but have cleared everything and still see it. Will it need a wipe as well?

And still being a newby to this, I've seen where it asks if I want to wipe the memory, but will this completely wipe the phone including it systems information that make it work with ATT or will it just wipe the messages and information that I have placed on it?

In other words, when I hit wipe, will the phone still work and will I only have to reload the contacts on it?
