Hello Phillip,

I'm sorry to hear you are having such difficulty.

I've not heard many if any stories so dismal.

I don't want to sound flippant, bragging about how my phones all work, while you are having such a bad experience.

I also run a small business, 4 of us, and switched to Blackberry in March, primarily because of our bad experience with nearly every other phone
out there. Since switching we've had nearly no problems (it was a little frustrating getting AT&T to set up the accounts the way we needed them but this was trivial). My personal phone has crashed only about 6 times in 6 months, usually due to installing optional 3rd party apps. My most recent crash, as recounted earlier in this thread, an 8800 crashing while dialing a specific sequence of digits, is the first real OS bug I've encountered. And even it was only minor since I could could work around it.

I can't tell you what to do to make yours work without knowing how you are configured, how you are using it, what apps you might have installed, what you were doing when it crashed, etc. And even then, I could only suggest rudimentary debugging logic like, "Does it still crash if you don't install that app or don't run program1 before program2?"

I do have a phone# that was good back in March and got me through the AT&T jungle to someone who at least knew that blackberries didn't grow on bushes. I don't know if it is still good. It is 866-490-2666. And there are a few other forums I visit when I need help: pinstack.com, howardforums.com, and even the AT&T customer forum.

I hope you get the problems resolved. Blackberries really are good reliable machines. Maybe you just got the luck of the draw and are a victim of coincidence. Maybe the next one will be the charm.

Sincerely,
Mike

AT&T told me I should exchange it because there is nothing that could be done. I managed to get it working by reinstalling the operating system. (actually that didn't work the first time and I reinstalled the reinstalling software then reinstalled the OS) At some point there was an option to erase everything before reinstalling and thats what I did. It lasted several more days and crashed again. I was REALLY impressed with the features of the phone but these things just aren't dependable enough yet to use for business in my opinion.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to make these things usable? Maybe one could buy 2 or 3 of them and get really good and fast at reinstalling and backing them up and switch them out whenever there is trouble and then work on the other.
Maybe these big companies use them because they have full time IT guys to do those chores, but if you are a small business you are losing a lot of productive time doing all this mindless busywork of reinstalling rebooting taking batteries out putting back in reinstalling etc.
Any ideas? Do the Blackberry people even know that they have these problems? I couldn't find any place to send a message directly to them.
Maybe they read these threads. Is there any way to get technical support on these things.
