Default blackberry defects - 09-19-2007, 09:25 AM

On the first phone I had installed Blackberry maps. I wondered if that is the problem so when I got a new one I made sure I installed nothing. It crashed I think when trying to make a call. When I got it working it crashed when trying to set up the address book. When I bought the phone one thing that made it appealing is the fact that you could install other kinds of software. Now we find out you are not supposed to do that? According to Blackberry's technical info that classcast exception error is caused by setting up groups in the address book. Their expert fix: Don't do that!
Maybe I somehow got two defectives but you are saying that crashing once a month is a success story?
I still think the key to using one of these would be just to get really good and fast at uninstalling re-installing (combined with constantly backing up everything to minimaze data loss because I think these things crash all the time.
I didn't find any AT&T tech people to be knowledgable. They said everytime it was a hardware problem and that made me worry that after the warranty if these things are $500 a pop it would get real expensive to replace several times a month.
Has anyone had one that hasn't crashed? I guess if there are they wouldn't be reading these forums. It would be nice to hear some success stories.
