Right click on "my computer", hit "manage" and over to the left toward the bottom is "disk management"

You might have to drag that window and make it bigger, but that'll show if what's being plugged in is being recognized and you can give it "F" or "G" or even "Z". Just right click on it and hit "change drive letter"
