You are missing the point here.
People purchased the Wi-Fi phones for a reason and a reason only - FREE USAGE WHILE ON WI-FI.
Even if you are completelly right about the cheap data plan, this exercise is to figure out a way of using as many applications as possible for free while connected to a wireless network.
And FYI, Fido and Rogers are about to release new versions of their data plans for even cheaper than they are now. Looks like Canada is finally getting some affordable data plans.
