I've had the best luck with .mp4 coded with Roxio or some other video recoding programs. Mostly works using the ipod video convertors too just pick screen sizes in the 250 x 250 pixel RANGE so they play full screen (on my Pearl) I wasn't able to get any .avi's or .mpg's to play at all.
