To be fair, Cooper's store is
one block from RIM's Waterloo campus, so I'm pretty sure there's some - if not complete - truth in his postings. I've heard many, many stories that come from employees venturing out around the RIM campus and UW campus and the surrounding areas. I've seen pictures of devices months and months before they were launched or leaked by any carrier. It seems that most RIM employees in charge of various projects, such as BES or devices, would like to point fingers at carriers and large companies as the source for these NDA-protected leaks and make bold claims that people in Waterloo are fired for sourcing leaks or taking test devices out of the office (thus they are scared to do so and definitely not the source), but there's a lot of truth behind what Cooper says (else we wouldn't continue to hear stories about new device sightings, etc in and around Waterloo). Heck, they say that Mike Lazaridis gets prototype happy in Waterloo when visiting executives visit Waterloo and empties the treasure chest of R&D devices (per RIM employees not actual corporate executives who have visited).
