The 4Gb and higher cards are MicroSDHC format (HC=High Capacity). The HC-type cards use a FAT32 filesystem, whereas the older standard used FAT16.
From what I read on the Sandisk site (
link) you must have a HC-compatible reader.
Have you confirmed that your memory card reader is SD-HC compliant? If not, that could very well be your problem.
