This is really showing my noobness, but I downloaded the linuxmint iso and burned it on a disk but my computer won't boot from it. *EDIT* I may have figured it out, I needed to burn it a different way. I'm going to give this a go and see what happens.

You need to burn the cd as a disk image or iso for it to boot. I made the same mistake the first time I tried.
