I went with the less popular (so it seems) Wayfinder Navigator 7.

It's an up-front $99 US with no subscription fee for the North America version.

Being on a limited data plan, I did not want both a monthly subscription fee and data useage costs.

As for how it stacks up with other GPS apps, I don't know. It has online trip planning, 2D mode, follow me, turn-by-turn spoken, night mode, zoom etc. and it gets the job done. For comparison, I only have my stand-alone GPS unit to compare to. The stand-alone GPS units are far superior but then again, it doesn't make phone calls, keep my appointments or store my contacts, hehe.
