No problem. One gateway you can use is send to

. The gateway will route your message to the correct cell phone carrier's address. When the person replies, add that address to your addressbook and use it to send SMS messages.
The problem is not with the BlackBerry or RIM; it's with Nextel's (bogus) SMS service. It's an imperfect solution, but really it just takes some getting used to.
Have people who want to SMS you send their short messages to your address@your blackberry domain. Have them add that to the address book and you're all good.
