The only thing I see on the specs is that the BB uses .5amps to charge and the iPod uses 1 amp.....

If my guess is correct, you can use the BB at .5 on the iPod but I am not sure what the wide base does...as it uses 1 amp.....I am not sure how the trasformer works over the BB USB.
