BBs have limited BT syncing capabilities, as I understand it, because they originated in the corporate market, where data security concerns trumped ease of use. Now that BBs have gone mainstream and are as much a consumer gadget, RIM has to address the issue in some manner. Or not. Conversely, I guess, Apple has to address security concerns with the iPhone.
