Put the 3G SIM card in. It works. You will get voice and "data connection refused" since you most likely do not had a BB dataplan attached to that SIM.

Why are you so afraid to drop a dime and call the carrier? They need to properly provision it anyway so you are going to have to talk to someone sooner or later.

BB's aren't ordinary cell phones.
