While I'd LOVE the use of some metal on the new
s (I still miss the metal bezel around the screen from my old Nextel
7520), the problem with a strip of metal surrounding the entire body of the device is that it MAY interfere with the phone's ability to send and receive radio transmissions. This is why phones that are "all metal", like Nokia's gorgeous 8800/8801 slider, still have a small portion of the housing made of plastic, because that's where the antenna is located.
So, IF a metal band around the edge would interfere with the performance of the radios in the
, that would explain the use of vac-metalized plastic as opposed to actual metal.
