Might try deleting the Blackberry folder from Documents & Settings\userfolder\application data\research in motion.

Next time you connect, it will recreate itself.

This trick works almost every time I have a user call with the not syncing/DM crash problem.

(also, what JSanders said...sometimes they don't like to be plugged into a USB hub or through a laptop docking station)
