Actually you should only use channels 1, 6, or 11 on 802.11b/g wireless networks. 1, 6, and 11 are the only non-overlapping channels. This Cisco deployment guide explains this pretty clearly: Channel Deployment Issues for 2.4-GHz 802.11 WLANs
