Smile Epocrates for Blackberry! - 11-14-2007, 03:27 PM

Just installed Epocrates OTA on my BB7130e and it works great!

A few things:
-you need to have a username and password for PDA Medical Software. Medical & drug software for Palm & Windows PDAs
-Once you have a username and password go to get.epocrates.com to install it OTA (currently the only way to install the program)..
-The website states that you need 9MB free, but I think it takes up less space on my blackberry.
-It takes a long time-took 55 minutes. The good news is that you can do other things on the BB while it is installing in the background. No need to reset after installation either.
-Website states that OS 4.1 and higher are supported. Help via Webchat said that OS 4.2 was needed. I have OS 4.1, and had no problems with installing or using the program.

Initial reactions:
1. Great first version of a fantastic program.
2. Clean interface.
3. Fast drug and drug-drug interaction search.
4. Setting up regular updates is easy (done at installation).

All in all, I am glad that Epocrates is available for the Blackberry. I can leave another gadget in my desk drawer.

I am using the free version. There are packages (at PDA Medical Software. Medical & drug software for Palm & Windows PDAs) that do more for a fee, but for a basic program to look up medications and drug-drug interactions, this is perfect.

I downloaded the free version the other day and find it quite user-friendly. It takes up a lot of space, 9mb, but if you need this information handy this program does a great job.

Waiting for the BB 9000!

This is really wild. I was looking at software from Handango last night and lamenting the 49.95 I was going to spend for software that was nowhere near as good as the ePocrates I was used to using on my PP. For some reason I decided to go to their web site and there it was! Like manna from heaven! It took a long time to install, as some of you have mentioned, but I didn't care! It was just such a thrill to have it back!

(too many exclamation marks make Jack a dull boy?!?)

Default Memory card support ??? - 12-02-2007, 02:06 AM

It's a great program and I used it often on my Treo. It's nice seeing it finally available for Blackberry - but I will be even happier when memory card storage/support is available.

It takes up a fair bit of memory in it's present form.

Is there no way to put epoc onto a memory card? 9 mb is huge.

Agreed. I tried it, it's great; but I don't use it enough to justify it's memory consumption. If we could store the databases on the card, I'd keep it. I just can't make the space right now.

For the 8830 which is inherently challenged I use Pepid which allows database storage to the memory card.
