Default EarthComber? - 11-16-2007, 08:13 AM

Just downloading earthcomber now. I found a reference over on Crackberry.com. I was suprised that there wasn't a thread about it yet other than a mention in the whats on your blackberry thread. Anyone else using? Comments? If not, I'll report back my findings...

I tried that one and two big things stood out:
1- Since verizon GPS is turned off, the program was really glitchy and pretty much useless - probably not the case for those where the gps works.
2- Bigtime memory hog. It fell victim to my 'free the memory' weeding out.

I'd be interested to hear how it is supposed to work.

I've tried this program on WM and Palm devices-really slow. It has always frozen every device I've ever used it on. For the functionality, I'd use Live Search or Yahoo! GO. You don't get the ability to join the Earthcomber "community" but you can find what you need.

Default Thoughts - 11-21-2007, 10:01 AM

I like the concept. I reallllllly like the concept. However, the speed is an issue. I think it needs the following:

GPS polling setting. I see no way in the interface to set this.
Better UI. The menus seem clunky and slow.
More prefetching. At least the names, addresses and phone number. This would speed things up considerably.
