Default Reverse Caller ID? - 11-19-2007, 01:28 PM

Hi All,

Question for you. When I had my Treo, I had a great program called CityID that did a "on-the-fly" reverse caller ID lookup, so when I got a call I not only saw the name (if I knew the caller) and number, but also the city the call originated from. It was great, since there are so many area codes now.

Is there a similar application for the BB?

Thanks,

Geoff

There are several options, several threads here that mention possible apps for you to explore:

Rphone in Beyond411
ReversePhone

So, in looking at these, they all seem to be "after-the-fact" lookup.

CityID (the Treo program I referred to) did it on-the-fly (i.e, the location was shown AS the call came in....)

Am I missing something?

This is perfect...thanks.

By the way, I searched on what seemed logical to me - Caller ID and reverse lookup and got very limited responses. I apologize if i somehow offended someone who is more 'search-savvy" than I.

You have not offended anyone, you are welcome here to ask questions.

I know searches can either bring too much or too little sometimes, thus my inclusion of the threads I found.

Thanks.

If I had two "wishes":

1) Have the app work for names in my address book, too (that is what CityID does - it applies the city to every incoming call).

2) do lookup by exchange, so it is more granular. I live near Atlanta and the 678, 770, 404 and 706 are not enough...the 3-digit exchange would make it ideal.

Cityid sounds like a great program! I wonder if BB could create a version?

Who is the developer of CityID? Maybe we could lobby for them to make a BB version!! Sounds really slick and I could certainly use it.

Cequint. [url=http://www.cequint.com]

Not sure they would do it. They have now licensed their technology to the service providers. I am not sure they even develop the Palm version anymore, but you can still buy it from handango, etc.

Another cool one is TreoAreaCodes. Same idea, but even more granular and supports virtually the entire world (you load specific databases by country). It is a bit of a memory hog, although it has some really cool features, like showing a flag for the originating country or a "map" of the state or province (if in US or Canada)

In fact - scratch that. I bet the Berry-a-code makers could probably make a small tweak to their program to incorporate the above suggestions.
