Red face Facebook Update - 11-21-2007, 08:38 AM

I just went onto the Facebook mobile site and for grins and giggles decided to try and download the blackberry client.

I had versions 1.0.16... The download pointed to an updated version 1.0.18.

I did the update, rebooted.

So far the only thing i noticed is that the new f indicator has a red asterik on it when I have a new facebook alert.

Default facebook help! - 11-27-2007, 12:26 PM

hey there--

i'm new to blackberries and want to use facebook mobile. having trouble though.

when i go to download the blackberry facebook application it takes me to a "blackberry" page on my phone to download 'facebook of blackberry smartphones.' i click download and it asks me to verify email address. i enter my email and password and it tells me the email and password are wrong when i know they are correct. very frustrating. if i just go to facebook.com and try to sign in it also says my info is wrong. thoughts?

i was able to get a little farther before in downloading the application but in the end it never loaded. whats the best way to do facebook on blackberry? i have a mac too....is that the problem?

thanks!

go to m.facebook.com on your bberry browser... it should have an OTA link right there. Also, you must have a blackberry data plan to do this. If you dont have a blackberry data plan, the app is useless to you since it uses the email alerts to notify you of any messages, wall posts, etc.

The original 1.0.0.16 version appeared to want to use Desktop [IPPP] browsing, falling back to BlackBerry [IPPP] if Desktop didn't exist.

In other words it wanted to use your BES/MDS connection, if you had one, and if not, it would browse from the device. Since BES users get this sevice book by default, a lot of people were getting around it by deleting the Desktop [IPPP] service book.

The 1.0.0.18 version doesn't try to browse through BES/MDS, even if your browser defaults are set to use it.

So there should be no more instances of "Error: could not contact facebook" due to corporate firewalls blocking your BES from talking to facebook.com

On the other hand, RIM also released IT policy updates which allow your BES admin to deny "social network application" (read: facebook) functionality, if they so desire it.

From the very original version, I updated to the current one available as of this morning.

I noticed in the Switch Application box there is now a proper icon and name for the Facebook app, not a blank window and the module name.

Neither do I... are there supposed to be? I mean the little facebook icon appears at the top of the screen with a red asterisk on it instead.

what is the exact location for the download for the FaceBook app. I had it on my old 8800, but when I go to either Facebook | Welcome to Facebook! or m.facebook.com I don't get a prompt to download it. I can't remember what I did exactly the first time to get it.

Best,

Alex

I must be the only person in the world that thinks facebook is evil!! Aside from that, i have to admit the app is really cool. My sister uses it all the time.

Does anyone know if the memory leak that was noticed with the Facebook app and the 8130 has been resolved?
