I rebooted now I'm back to the double clicking with nothing happening. I think that parts sucks since you don't know if it's working or not.

yeah you do have to give it a minute or two. once it says connected you should be up and running. As a side note, it also seems that when you "close" the app the first time (clicking on the X) and it sends it to the tray, the advanced settings disappear. That is very odd. Trying to reproduce the error

It's been another 10 or 15 minutes and still nothing. I've double clicked it many times but can't get the config box back up.

According to my post times, it's been 22 minutes.

27 minutes and now I have the config box. Only see folders in the contacts but when I select my contact folder and hit SET I get nothing. All the other advaced setting boxes are empty. I'm trying another reboot.

How many reboots did it take for yours to work?

it works only the first time the app loads after boot, then it disappears. i have rebooted a couple times and this still happens. its very strange.

I wouldn't mess w/the advanced settings yet...it's clear they are incomplete and not ready for real use yet. They weren't required before to sync, and I suspect they still aren't.

Interesting...so you are able to sync from the BB to Outlook?

How about deletions...if you delete an event on the BB does it delete in Outlook?

yes, they work fine both ways. the only issue i am seeing is the length of time that it takes to sync contacts, and that i keep dropping my connection on the BB to the servers

we are experiencing some lag with our sync servers at this time, so please bear with us while we check it out. Thanks to the Test team for their enthusiasm.

Also, sith, please those wanting to test send an email to the support email address and I can send out the coupon codes - faster than the PMs, etc. Thanks - Josh

not a problem i will pass it along. out of curiousity, did you limit the number of contacts synced to 5 as a max? when i do a sync now it syncs 5, then has about 400 pending

Sith - we did have to batch up the sync sessions as the BB API does not allow full blown use of the system resources by third party software. Sync'ing down too much at one time will lock up the device.

Also, for those that have really slow start up of the app when starting windows, do you have alot of startup apps? We do see that the app is unresponsive at startup until it connects to the server. We will look at ways to improve that.

Just rebooted again and it took 53 minutes for the app to launch. I had only outlook and the company VPN running.

I can get anything to sync either. I added contacts and calendar appt and haven't seen them go either way. My advanced settings are still blank if that matters.

well that 53 minutes is definitely not right, will have to look at that and see if the VPN is impacting matters. I will have our techs check the sync server queue to see if you have items there. I will advise via email. Thanks.

Josh...if you start up windows, launch Outlook and accept or create meetings or complete other tasks in Outlook before BBerrySync becomes connected to the server, will it 'see' and sync those actions?

Connection time used to be much, much faster for some reason. I'm not on a VPN, by the way...it was taking BBerrysync 15 minutes to hook up w/the server.

Hold of for a day!! sorry folks, it looks like we pushed the limits too much trying to speed up the pc app - which is causing the slow load times. We have throttled back with version 0.7.8.1 (which will be released on website tomorrow).

as for the device side, we found a small bug affecting the calendar items and will release that file as well. sorry for the inconvenience.

Redflea - In theory, until BBerrySync is live, any activity is not captured and would not be sync'd. We are working to make sure that the BBerrySync is like Desktop Manager in terms of load time so that it is a non-issue.

Josh, to make sure I understand this statement, if I'm out and about on my off day and my laptop is in the trunk so not running. The changes I make to the handheld will never sync with outlook? Is that what you're saying? This application has to be running and connected at the time the entry is made or the entry won't sync.

Well, I just joined our nice beta here (I just want to thank you for the opportunity)

I installed the software and got the initial sync down in 20 minutes give or take.

Created a few memo's and manually sync'ed all seems good.

However since I got my BlackBerry I have created another "notes folder" (called "old notes") within the default "notes" folder and I typically move any notes I may need in the future into the "old notes" so I don't clutter up space in my BlackBerry. When I manually sync'ed (OTA) from my BlackBerry the notes I deleted were deleted but the notes I moved to the "old notes" folder are remaining on my BlackBerry.

I don't know if this was brought to any one's attention or if their is a fix for it.

No - changes on the BB are stored on the BBerrySync server until your laptop client asks for them.

The situation we're talking about is you start up your laptop and makes changes to your Outlook calendar/contacts/tasks/notes before the BBerrySync PC client is fully up and running....in that case your changes would not be "seen" and wouldn't get sent to the BBerrySync server for your Blackberry to pull down. Josh has said they are going to get the launch time of the BBerrySync PC client fast enough to avoid these types of situations.

So, on Outlook, you:

1. Deleted some notes
2. Moved some notes to the Old Notes subfolder in Outlook
3. Sync'd, and the notes you deleted were deleted on the BB, but the notes you moved were not deleted

I don't think the BB supports nested Notes folders, so either the notes moved in Outlook would have to be marked for deletion on the BB, or ignored from that point forward. I assume you want them deleted from the BB...

I see two easy options...instead of moving the notes:

1. Copy the notes you want to save to the Old Notes folder and then delete them from the Notes folder in Outlook.

2. Use Cut/Paste. BBerrySync may see the Cut as a deletion and mark the notes for removal from the BB and should ignore their paste to a Notes subfolder, since the BB doesn't support that.

First option is simplest, and should be guaranteed to work, as it just asks BBerrysync to see a simple deletion.

Let me just re-phrase, I was coming back to edit my post but you beat me to finish line .

"Old Notes" is not a sub-folder of the default Notes folder, it is just a seperate Notes folder I called "Old Notes" which is where I move the notes the I don't need on my Blackberry, since the BlackBerry Desktop Manager was mapped to "Personal Email\Notes" I would move what I didn't need to "Personal Email\Old Notes" and it was removed from my BlackBerry and I still had the notes to refer to just incase.

And yes you are correct, the notes I deleted were removed from my BlackBerry, however the notes I simply moved to another folder are remaining on my BlackBerry. So I am not sure if BBerrySync if following the same "mapping" rule as the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, or if it just senses creations and deletions.

i think it just uses creation/edit/deletes from what i can tell. I could be wrong in this but in my own testing, just moving something doesnt cause the app to recognize any changes.

Josh,

Any way to release my old computer off your server and be able to use my new computer? When I hit the JOIN button it says that the package is already installed on another computer and won't let me put it on the new computer.

Any help for this?

Shawn

I am probably going to mess around this later on today, I wanna see how the BBerrySync responds when I delete the memo that is not in the default Notes folders (from Both my Laptop and BlackBerry), the way it looks now the application is not limited to the mapping of "Personal Email\Notes". However I have a lot of notes in the Old Notes folder so the application is not picking up my previous notes only ones that are interacting with my BlackBerry from this point foward.

I will get back here later tonight or early tomarrow with my findings.

Edit: Boy don't time just fly!

I created a Note on my BB and sync'ed it to Outlook (via OTA), then moved it to "Old Notes" and then deleted from "Old Notes" and it remains on my BlackBerry.

The 2 notes I moved from Notes to Old Notes that remained on BlackBerry, I deleted from BlackBerry and they are still located in Old Notes, however when I manually sync'ed it shows 2/2 Memo(s).

Here are some screenshots:

This is the Folder Structure.

Here is the Default Notes Folder.

Here is the Old Notes Folder.

The top 3 notes are the ones I moved from "Notes" to Old Notes" today, and they remained on my Blackberry. (however I deleted them from the BlackBerry to see if BBerrySync would delete them from old notes which it did not)

Hello all - a busy Sunday has yielded an upgrade to version 7.8.1. I am sorry to have to ask everyone to upgrade to the latest version to run the software. we have throttled back the speed a bit to make it load faster and have released the lock/non-response of the software while its loading up. this should speed up the load times. You can download from the website or with the following links:

http://www.bberrysync.com/downloads/...eBetav0781.zip

http://www.bberrysync.com/downloads/...etup_v0781.exe

As for the issue of moving items, it is related to the advanced settings tab that we will be adding in the near future. Currently, we do not recognize moves to the notes as we will give the user the option of which folders to recognize and keep in sync - then at that time, we will recognize "moves".

Shawn-can you please send an email to the support address with your account name and we can reset the computer association for you.

Soap - if your laptop is off, and you are working on your BB, then any and all changes are held at the sync servers waiting for the laptop to connect, at which time, it will deliver all the items and flush the info. It will only retain the ID numbers for future reference.

In the next beta build we will be able to support the software being offline and recognizing and remembering all events. When you do connect, then the sync data will push the data to the sync server.

Thanks. - Josh

As anyone had the issue of the applications loader not recognizing the alx install files? A few of the testers have experienced this. I have done some searches but have not really found a definitive answer. On our end, we cannot duplicate this problem and so are having a time to debug. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Mine told me that there were no additional applications matching my device ( 8320 T-Mo ) but putting a check next to the BBSync application installed it all the same.

Well after uninstalling, rebooting, installing and running the application, it has been sitting for 10 minutes on the connecting to server. Also, when i stopped the service on the other, and uninstalled, Outlook will no longer load without locking up. i have removed the pst files, restored them, using the scanpst.exe tool. it starts for a few seconds, then just locks up. anyone have any issues with this?

I can't get the initial sync to complete. I tried both USB and the file and both seem to hang after a while.

Question... Does this only work on a PST? My contacts and calendar is on exchange even though I have a PST for archiving purposes.

I would load Outlook in safe mode, just get outlook and then load it up normally. (Start - Run - "Outlook /safe"

Also a quick question since this my first week on the beta, is their a queue or size limit I have the server? I just ask because I typically go a week without syncing with desktop.

Although I will get by my computer to upgrade to the newer version later today. Now is this upgrade just an uninstall/re-install and do I have to redo the initial sync after I upgrade?
