Just go to BBerysync and click "Software" link in the top wheel. You might need an account to perform beta test. Contact with BBerrySyncJosh for more information.

Default Connection issues - 12-13-2007, 03:10 AM

Hi Dawg - Thanks for your time in testing the BBerrySync software. In releasing version 0.7.2, we added a new step which you may have skipped which is leading to your problem. After you have installed the device and pc apps, you will need to complete the initial sync - data mapping. We have the instructions below.

Step 1. Start initial sync on the device app by selecting Initial Sync on the device app menu. You should then see “Waiting for desktop connection...” appear.

(Note: If you already completed an Initial Sync previously and wish to do it again, you must reset it by choosing Reset Initial Sync from the Configure menu > Reset Initial Sync.

Step 2: Select Map Data from your desktop app from the Control Panel tab.

Step 3: When the connection is established, the initial sync - data mapping will take place and the you will see the status notices on your device.

If you have enabled the balloon tips, you will see the status of the data mapping on the pc app.

You must wait for about 5 – 10 mins for the initial sync to complete depending on the size of your data on the device.

Once the balloon tip shows message “Ready”, the data mapping is complete and you can start using the software.

Please see more detail in the user guide for beta version 0.7.2.

Please do not hesitate to ask me if you have any problems.

Josh

I read the new instructions prior to trying this so I wouldnt miss anything its the intial sync that wont happen. I cant get the desktop software to recognize the bb my DM works fine.

Once I hit intial sync the program locks down and I have to close it down and restart it. It basically never finishes I dont have but 200 contacts so I know it doesnt take that long.

Default Initial Sync musst be with USB cable - 12-13-2007, 07:11 AM

I apologize for forgetting to state that the initial sync needs to be over USB, due to the data throughput being greater than OTA. So please connect your USB cable for the initial sync.

Thanks

I am josh as I said I read the tutorial verbatium and did the steps as they were listed and never could get it to map the data I am on xp home sp2.The tutorial is pretty simple so i understood it had to be a USB sync but I cant get it to recognize the bb through the usb. My DM recognizes it just fine.

So my data [email, calendar, memos and so on] will go through your server to sync my device wirelessly, right?

If so, how sucure are your servers and how much info can you see, how long is the info saved for and so on???

Thanks for the info.

I would personally like to know a little bit of technical background of how this is being achieved using a BIS account. Is the data secure/encrypted in any way? How frequent/up-to-date is the synchronization? What are the downsides/limitations compared to the full BES implementation? What about calendar?

It has been very quiet... so let me provide my experience with version 0.72 (which I reported back to the developers as well):

Added contact, task and note on BB, all synced successfully to PC
Calendar item synced from BB, but with incorrect time and recurring setting
Deleted items from BB either didn't sync or other items were deleted on PC (that was a little scary...)

Added note and contact on the PC, synced to BB successfully
New calendar item on PC didn't sync, new note from PC synced to BB, but with changed date, priority and recurring option
Deletes on the PC did not sync

I tried version 0.70 before this, and 0.72 is a definite improvement, with a good bit more to be done. Testing Bberrysync and reading the Googlesync thread it seems to me that this whole sync thing is a great deal more difficult than it first appears (which would also explain why there aren't any 3rd party apps out there already).

Cory, good point about the OS. The PC I am using for the beta testing is running XP Home. That might make a difference.

Hello all - I wanted to give a short update on the application. We have been busy getting Beta version 0.7.3 ready (Thanks to Axel and Don for their constructive comments) which will further tighten up the sync process and fill some of the holes we have in the sync. Also, Dawg, we will be releasing the debug build sometime next week so that we can troubleshoot your situation as well as any other connection related issues. I have tested BBerrySync with XP Home and Pro without problems. We need to do some more testing on Vista before we can make the same statement - sorry Cory. Also, we have not been able to devote time to the BIS transport issue - sorry Jaime.

So, please stay tuned for the version 0.7.3 later this week and the debug build next week. Thank you.

Christmas Gift from the BBerrySync Team - Beta Version 0.7.3 Release - Available on the BBerrySync site for download starting at 6 a.m Pacifc Standard Time, Monday December 24, 2007.

Some of the fixes addressed in this release:

1. Sync Mode - Allows user to configure the data sync path, i.e. from PC to Device, vice versa or 2 way. Please note that this option must match on both device and PC.
2. Mail Account Settings - Allows user to configure the Mail Accounts that are to be synchronized. Please note that this option must match on both device and PC.
3. Time Zones for Tasks and Calendar - We have adjusted the task and calendar sync to resolve problems with tasks and calendar sync'ing to different time and dates.
4. Deleted items - We have corrected the Redemption Library bug that was causing deleted items sync errors.
5. Device Connection Optimizer - allows for faster device operation by managing device memory pool.
6. Balloon Tip - We have fixed the balloon tip to remember its last setting.

We have identified some issues with BBerrySync and the Windows Vista OS and will incorporate those changes within the Debug Build version that should be released in one week time.

Thank you all for your help.

Also, we will be having a promotion coupon offer in the new year for those who want to receive a no obligation 25% off licensing fee coupon. Please stay tuned for further details.

Josh and the BBerrySync Team

I did forget to mentiont that you will need to redo the initial sync before using version 0.7.3 - sorry about that.

Also, Dawg - can I suggest that you hold on for a couple more days for the Debug Build version. I understand that you are eager to test, but I want to be able to debug your connection issues and not cause more frustration for you. Thanks for your understanding.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Everyone.

There was a small problem with the Blackberry SDK API that caused a problem with the configure menu on the device. We have updated the app and uploaded it to the website. Please look for the device install file named BBerrySyncOTABeta073_Update.zip. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. Thank you. - Josh and the BBerrySync Team

So the BBerrysync web site (BBerysync) now has pricing posted. Don't know how new that is, but I hadn't seen it before.

If this is actually working well, the pricing is acceptable to me and may sign up...but, I can't afford to have my work calendar screwed up (meetings lost, moved, duplcated, the same w/contacts, tasks, etc.).

So how is this working for you guys? (I know you status, DAWG ).

Recommended, or not? Look like a product you'll end up feeling comfortable using?

Also...the web site says:

What does that mean? Since this is wireless, why would sync not run for several days...I'd expect it to run any time anything changes, like my wife's BES sync.

It's still beta, so I wouldn't expect it to be perfect at this point. The couple of glitches I reported to the support e-mail were acknowledged pretty quickly.

Based on what I've seen so far, this absolutely is a product I'll be using on a daily basis.

I *think* the 500mb is so you don't have to have your desktop on constantly syncing - changes synced to the server from your blackberry are queued until you bootup the desktop which has the bb sync desktop client.

I would love to use it. The PC shows a completed initial sync but the device never gets a connection.
