Anyone else having problems w/the Outlook client on the PC? Don't know if this is a work network issue (everything else is going fine) but when i launch it, it takes a long time to open (like > a minute) if I double-click on it in the system tray. Also had it lock up a couple times recently...never had that happen before.

Might have something to do with the fact that their website appears to be messed up at the moment. Home page works, but the login page throws an error:
Quote:
Server Error in '/' Application.

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

They still have some issues to deal with...it's close, but not ready to roll quite yet. I won't try to guessetimate a date - very dangerous w/software, especially stuff like this that has to play w/multiple environments/APIs, etc.

Josh said they are still getting the dupe issue nailed...didn't have a specific date for the new version.

Sith...what's your "dupe fix" again? I had a recurring meeting I accepted in Outlook that got triplicated on the BB...what would you do in that case?

the last part there, when it is synced 1 way, delete the event(s) in outlook, then set back to 2 way and recreate

Ahh...thanks. That won't work for me, as the BB is where I'm getting all kinds of dupes, etc., that I don't want to sync back to Outlook. Thanks.

if you set the sync to 1 way FROM outlook you shouldnt have an issues with this. you could in theory disable the app running on the BB completely and then resync via USB, then reload the BB app, do an initial sync and be good to go.

Josh, I cannot get any sync to my device anymore. Both applications running, but nothing back and forth between the two. I have redone the initial sync but it doesnt seem to help.

Hmmm, its now been 9 days since Josh checked into this thread, and for at least the last three their server has been hosed and throwing (the same) errors every time I try to log in. Kinda makes one wonder just what's up.

I've spoken w/Josh via email in the past few days. Last I heard they were having more trouble w/the dupes problem than they expected.

I sync'd from Outlook to Pearl as late as yesterday...today I turned things off due to the dupes issue, am going to wait for the next update to start syncing again.

I assume the team is working quite hard to get the next release out. I hope they are taking time to have a beer or two as well.

Just did a quick test...started Outlook and Pearl sync clients, cilents both connected to server just fine, created a new Note. BBerrySync sync'd it to the server, and it showed up on the BB.

So servers are up, sync is working for me.

Can you log into your account on the server? Will the standard login page come up for you? It won't for me (and hasn't for days), can't even get to the point of trying to put in my username/password.

Hello All - I wanted to check in here. With a large portion of the BBerrySync Team being of asian descent, we have met the immovable rock that is Chinese New Year. That entails a lot of travel to be with family. So let me apologize for the absence recently.

We are coming along with the software and should have the next beta build out soon. I too hesitate to put timeframes on software development as there always seems to be some issue that pops up. In any case, we are receiving the bug reports and will be sure to address them all before final release. I can say though, that given the restrictions of the RIM API, we anticipate having to make some compromises with the sync. So, for example, we will not be able to duplicate the Desktop Manager sync, as they don't allow full use of the device resources in their API. Conversely, DM does not sync sent mail or OTA. We will, however, do our best to give you as much of the full blown DM function with mail and OTA as possible.

Thanks - Josh

I will make an effort to check out our site.....I know that we have moved some of the functions and settings to the server side to make is easier for the user as well as on the admin side, so it may be impacting the back end functions. Thanks.

Sounds like Josh will look into this. In any case, I never log into my account on the server. I frankly don't even remember why I would want to do that!

Duh! I should have thought of that. We're getting a release out right now as well, and have lost a larger portion of our test team to the new year celebration. I was playing tennis last night w/some friends who are Chinese-Americans, and every time I made an unforced error, they would cheerfully call out "Red Envelope!"

On a hilarious side note... This current outage and subsequent up time has fixed my sync issues!

I wish it launched yesterday!! We are very close to getting all the bugs taken care of and finally we can open this up to the entire market. We should have the next beta version ready by the end of the week. This version addresses the calendar dupe issues, sync settings as well as improving the logic for when someone does a Desktop Manager sync after going on BBerrySync. The bottom line is that we will continue beta testing until we have a solid product for the users. Thanks.

And that's about all anyone can (and should) say at this point in product development.

But I understand the question/feeling, kokeary. In fact, I've been bugging Josh in a similar way..."When is the next beta version going to ready?! Is it minutes, hours days??!!"

That is the best news i have heard in a while. A company beta testing a product into the ground to make sure there are NO bugs! I know Josh has gotten alot of accolades here but still, bravo

Its good that they care about their product and not let it go live until they know its right.

Ok guys, I reloaded so help me out here...

How do you launch the application? I see the icon in my tray, I can hover over it and it says BBerrySync but I double click = nothing.. right click = nothing... Every now and then I wee the application behind a bunch of stuff on my desktop but I can seem to consistently get it to run.

Second, is this part of the instructions supposed to be on the device or on the PC? I ask because I don't see these exact words in either menu but I wanted to at least be looking in the right place.

1. Set Initial Sync mode (Select BBerrySync app>App Main Screen > Full Menu > Configuration > Initial Sync Mode (default is USB mode (online) or you can change Offline mode)
2. Click Full Menu > Save Configuration to save your configuration.

Last for now, I put in the same user name and password I use in the website. I can log in the website ok but when the app is running and I go to account ==> join I get an error saying invalid account. What was I supposed to put in those fields.

Almost last, I hit initial sync on the PC and nother happens. This is after putting the device in initial sync mode so it says waiting for PC connection. Should I see anthing or is it doing something or what's the deal there....

Ok, really the last, how do I get this wizard to run? I haven't seen a wizard yet...

A wizard will guide you through the process. If you encounter a problem that does not allow the USB online mode to complete the Initial Sync, you will be diverted to the offline mode process.

Well, this is the last, looks like I registered with my old PIN. The one from my 7290. Do they have an online place to change the PIN or device?

Did you download the PDF docs that provide instructions? There is info there on the steps.

I suspect you'll need help from Josh if you used the wrong PIN...you can try the web site, but I don't know if they have that level of functionality in place yet...you might need a new account. :(

When that part is straightened out...

I found initial sync via USB cable wouldn't work at all for me. So I completed the initial sync in "offline" mode, and you may have better luck using that approach. That essentially means that you:

On the BB:

1. Set initial sync on the BB to "offline"
2. Run initial sync
3. Use the Explorer (open Media and launch the Explorer) to move the offline sync file from the Device/Ringtones folder to any folder/location on your SD card that you prefer
4. Attach the BB to your PC via USB
5. Enable Mass Storage mode so your BB SD appears as a drive to your PC. (Alternatively, you can remove your SD card and put it in an adapter and insert it in your PC...)

On the PC:

1. Launch BBerrysync app on the PC, and the icon will appear in the system tray. Once it has connected to the data center, you'll be able to launch the app UI by double-clicking on the icon in the system tray, if BBerrysycn isn't connected yet it will tell you you have to wait...
2. Type your BB PIN and the user name and PW that you used on the web site (at least that's what I remember doing).
3. Select Initial Sync from the first tab
4. Select Next
5. Select "Initial Sync by Browsing File" and follow the instructions to browse to the BB sync file on your BB SD card. That should allow initial sync to complete, and you should be able to sync OTA (BB to PC and PC to BB) from that point forward.

Good luck. Since Josh is supposed to have a new beta release out "late this week" you would probably be best to wait until tomorrow to see if he posts the new software anyway...

Sith...are you working w/recurring events that are modified? As in

- The entire event moves. E.g., from every Friday at 5 to every Thursday at 2,

or

- Individual instances of recurring events are cancelled or modified

Those were the types of events that were causing me all kinds of problems, from dupes to incorrect deletion of individual instances or entire recurring meetings. Most of the time the errors were limited to my Pearl, so I could clear the calendar and re-sync, but I did have a few meetings deleted from my outlook calendar on my PC incorrectly...

Good idea, I'll wait on the new version while I wait to get my PIN updated or a new account created.

Still haven't heard from the email I sent to the support email address regarding my PIN but a few observations...

I would like to set time parameters for when this should work and have those parameters sync to both the device and PC. ie.. I work 9am to 6pm mon to fri so I would like to tell it only work during those hours. I would think this should save some battery life.

Also, my schedule doesn't change that often so I would like to see maybe a 1 or 2 hour sync every option. Again, I think this would save battery and take some of the load off their servers...

Lastly, I would like to see a manually sync button added to the options when you right click the icon in the tray. This means if I don't want it to auto sync or of I have just made an entry that I want sync'd now, I can easily force a manual sync on the fly and keep going....

I'm sure I'll have more suggestions if I ever get in...

Are you having issues with battery life? With moderate to heavy use on my device, wifi running all the time and bluetooth all the time, i still dont have any issues making it a day to a day and a half on my battery. I have the sync running on the smallest interval as well (i think 2 min).

These are events that are newly created, including recurring events and events that span multiple days. I can edit them on the device or on the computer and have no issues with the Sync. I have noticed that occassionally i do get duplicate contacts when i edit them on the device. I will end up with 1 copy in outlook and 3 on the device. I delete 2 on the device and they delete in outlook. then i will edit on the device and it will sync back to outlook as 1 contact

Naw, I don't even have it running yet. Was just making initial observations. It may be a non-issue but it was in regards to those of us who will use this app on a company provided computer that doesn't run 24x7 but primarily while we are in the office.

the app can run on the BB the whole time though, it doesnt change the battery life much at all. the send/receive takes only a few seconds. I have the app installed on my work laptop and when i disconnect from one network it just doesnt send, when i connect to another it clears the que (thats what it appears anyway)

Hello All - Beta should be out tomorrow. We have tried to really work on the recurring events in the Cal. We have changed the interface, along with the settings. We have also simplified the initial sync data map process with a wizard - I hope you all like.

Also, I would suggest that everyone turn off and uninstall the BBerrySync software as we had to clear out the sync database. I will let everyone know when the software is ready for download. Thanks.

Also, Soapm, we will have the PIN ID updated when the software is released. Thanks!

Josh
