For those that want to test, we will try to accommodate you all, so please send an email to [email address] and we can process the coupon codes. For those that think that we seem to flip flop with our policy on beta testers, we are trying to slowly ramp up the number of users/sync activity to make sure that we don't "break" things. We also have to allow users some time to get used to using the software and expect the amount of sync'ing to increase. So off course, the standard reply is that we are full at the moment as we don't want to make promises without being able to keep them. But as soon as we can expand the test group, we will try to accomodate as many as want to try. Thanks.

The software has been released on the BBerrySync site > Software icon. Please take a read of the quick start guide as it will help lead the way. There are also some notes to keep in mind.

- you should also complete a desktop manager sync before installing the BBerrySync software or running the data map
- if you have a password on your device, you should disable it before using running the initial sync data map wizard
- you will have to complete the initial sync data map again before using the software. you may have to reset the initial sync flag on the device app before you will be allowed to run it again.
- you will have to input your login info on the pc app as well as the device app
- you will have to set the initial sync method (usb or file) in the device app cofiguration and then initiate the initial sync function on the device app before initiating it on the pc app
- if you run a display with large fonts, the pc app may be broken up
- if you run a Pearl, then the background graphic will not display properly
- we have upgraded the backend for the customer login, but will have to wait till next week to deploy

Please rest assured that we will also be fixing all these GUI issues before we release. Aside from that, I hope you all sync away. Thanks. - Josh

Can I join the Beta?

I am quickly learning how much I miss the OTA sync that I had w/WM5/6.

Hated that software because I could never count on getting my messages, but I really liked when it did work.

Josh, did you mean the new 078 version has been released? Because I just went there to download, and it still is showing the old 077 versions of both BB and desktop.

Just about to leave for an overnight camping trip with my cub scout son (thankfully in a museum in boston, and not outdoors, but I digress), but I'm looking forward to testing this build out when I return !!

Thanks Josh, and kudos to the dev team for their hard work and responsive updates on the reports!!!

couple of things
When you hit validate connection before doing the initial sync, you have a typo there. it says "You have NOT setting up BBerrysync account on your device". Also, love the splash screen on the device makes it look much cleaner.

Josh,
When I try to load the software on my desktop it says that I have the program loaded on another device. I had used my laptop in the past but no longer have it, so how can I make it so the desktop can sign in with the new software?

I still have the same problem getting the application to launch on my PC. I see the icon in my tray and I double click and double click then I right click and I right click and nothing seems to happen. If this is like the last build I will let it set for a while and I should eventually see the box in the background.

it takes a long while the first time to come up. i had it not coming up but it took about 10 minutes. if you reboot it loads right up while booting.

4. Attach the BB to your PC via USB
5. Enable Mass Storage mode so your BB SD appears as a drive to your PC. (Alternatively, you can remove your SD card and put it in an adapter and insert it in your PC...)

On the PC:

1. Launch BBerrysync app on the PC, and the icon will appear in the system tray. Once it has connected to the data center, you'll be able to launch the app UI by double-clicking on the icon in the system tray, if BBerrysycn isn't connected yet it will tell you you have to wait...
2. Type your BB PIN and the user name and PW that you used on the web site (at least that's what I remember doing).
3. Select Initial Sync from the first tab
4. Select Next
5. Select "Initial Sync by Browsing File" and follow the instructions to browse to the BB sync file on your BB SD card. That should allow initial sync to complete, and you should be able to sync OTA (BB to PC and PC to BB) from that point forward.

Good luck. Since Josh is supposed to have a new beta release out "late this week" you would probably be best to wait until tomorrow to see if he posts the new software anyway...
Thanks for these instructions, I did at least feel like I was getting somewhere. All the steps on the device worked but when I connected it to the PC and double clicked the tray icon "NOTHING". I hear something on the PC like a response but I don't see any action.

EDIT... Ok, 15 minutes after installing the application and beginning to double click the icon I now see it in my task bar. If something is going on during this time or if this is normal it shoud bbe documented somewhere so I know to just chill for a while...

I will continue with you Pc steps since they seem to be getting me somewhere. Will report what happens.

I finished up with the PC instructions just fine, thanks for posting these!!!

Ok, I guess I'm just impatient which is why I don't do well at the mall with my wife. When I click an icon I expect to see immediate action!!!

I think I'm running now so will see how she does.

Well, one last question. Can I just X out of that box with the control panel? It doesn't seem to minimize to my tray so I was wondering what you do with it?

yep, it says "BBsync is still running". i leave the application running on the BB and just close it on the PC. as long as you dont right click on the tray icon and close it, it still runs.

Also, during the first config on the PC I believe I only checked contacts. I would now like to add calander and maybe notes. How do I get that config box back up?

I think I answered my own question, I believe this is the difference between an icon in background and one lighted up in color when looking at the control panel.

open up the app. you should have icons there on the main screen, just click em and you should be fine. they will be ghosted when not installed, but full color when installed.

i cannot map the contacts folder under options. however if you delete all or if you restore all, it doesnt pick it up. you have to delete one at a time or add one at a time.

Anyone having issues staying connected? whenever i do a sync i keep getting "Invalid Account" though the desktop is staying connected. to fix it i have to reboot my device. it also appears that only 5 items are synced at one time on the contacts side. is there any way to increase this? its going to take days to get all my contacts from device to outlook 5 at a time.

I've been playing with this for a bit now.

I was having some issues w/Notes syncing so I redid my Initial Sync w/.78 (so I've done that twice now w/.78), so I am not sure how/if any of my results are influenced by that...

- The PC client slow to connect to the data center server. No idea if that is .78, or server, or both. When I load it, the bberrysync icon appears in the tray quickly, but it only responds to mouse clicks by saying "connecting to data center, please wait" for quite a while. I haven't timed it (I should!) but I think 10 minutes would be a reasonable estimate before the client UI will appear. I haven't timed it during a restart of the PC yet, only launching while the PC is already running.

- It doesn't seem like the sync client on the PC is syncing things back to the PC (or maybe the sync client on the BB isn't syncing things to the server for it to pick up. I've made several changes in the past hour or so (since I got home from some errands and began playing with), and while things I change on the PC are syncing to the BB, things I change on the BB aren't making it back to Outlook, including deleting events, adding events, adding text to notes, changing tasks to complete, etc. I would be interested to hear if others are syncing things from the BB back to Outlook successfully.

- Anniversary and Birthday entries created in Contacts in Outlook are sync'd to the BB, but are not shown in the Contact entry on the BB (the events correctly shown in the calendar on the BB). Deleting those events from the BB does not delete them from Outlook.

- Job Title on a contact does not sync to the BB. Notes in a Contact do not sync to the BB.

- Aside from above, contacts (new and edits) seem to sync to the BB fine.

- Tasks appear to sync to the BB fine

So is anyone else syncing back to Outlook from the BB successfully?

Just rebooted to time things...rebooting finished about 2:55 PM and the icon appeared in the tray almost immediately.

At about 3:09 PM I was able to get the UI to appear by double-clicking, though the "connecting to data center, please wait" messaging continued for another two or three minutes.

So quite a long wait for connection to the data center for me...anyone else time this yet?

Well i have not had it not syncing. I am still getting contacts synced up. The sync seems much slower than before, not sure what is going on though. Josh any input on this? Have you two mapped out the folders you want to sync? You can go into advanced options and map the folders now. All of it is located under contacts though.

Since only Contacts has some sort of UI in place in Advanced Settings, and since Contacts does sync to the BB appropriately w/out changing any setting there (the sync map sets it all up) I haven't bothered w/anything in Advanced Settings yet.

So are you saying that only contacts is syncing from the BB to Outlook, or are you getting anything else to sync from the BB to Outlook?

i am getting contacts and email at the moment. i havent tried to do events but will try them now. I remapped the contacts under the advanced settings and it just seems to be very slow.

OK...I don't do any email sync, so "all" I've tried from the BB is tasks, contacts, calendar, and notes, and none of 'em appear to be making it back to Outlook...very interested in your results.
