I just downloaded and installed it on my 8310. Works a lot faster than the normal GPS Nap on the Device, and is also a lot nicer. It showed an approximate location when It was zoomed out, but once I zoomed in, it nailed me to the tee. (Well, besides that it said im standing outside that is ;) )

Oh well I guess it's not for me and my 8100.

Thanks for the reply.
With Google Maps open and running, press Menu > My Location.

Perhaps if you don't have a GPS built-in device, "My Location" is not in the menu. I believe it is. Try press '0' (zero) and it should locate yourself.

Default Version 2.0.3 now available - 03-15-2008, 08:26 AM

Doesn't look like any new features, but maybe it solves some issues that others might be having with 2.0.1.

Not sure if this is a new feature, but I don't recall this working before I upgraded to 2.0.3. When using a GPS, if you select "My Location" while driving, the screen will now scroll with as you move, keeping you centered on the page.

I updated to the new version and it runs excruciatingly s l o w. I roll the ball and the menu m i g h t respond or is behind my rolling effort so when I press the ball, I'm on the wrong highlight. I'm about ready to dump it.

check your free space on your device just to be sure. keep in mind if that is low or if many applications are running it will affect overall performance.

Default Intial Test Results with 2.0.3 - 03-15-2008, 07:50 PM

After deleting 2.0.1 and loading 2.0.3 today the program is now showing me at the cell tower just south of my neighborhood which is about 3/4 of a mile as the crow flys. Previously version 2.0.1 consistantly showed me at a cell tower about 5 miles away as the crow flys. It will be interesting to see if this was a fluke or if the "accuracy" has actually improved. Either that or Google now has the close cell tower in their database.

Any other positive/negative test results?

Always less than expected.
And now unimproved for 2008.

This feature is in 2.0.1.

This same thing happened with 2.0.2 and they pulled it.

I need to search for a place to give them feedback, I guess.

Default Accuracy Still is Bad with 2.0.3 - 03-16-2008, 08:32 PM

Today we drove from Houston to Austin and about half way it showed us in downtown Austin. Off by about 120 miles. It appears that the program uses the cell tower (singular) you are connected to as your location. If the cell tower is not in the data base then you are shown someplace else. No cigar for this version.

Also noticed the program icon is no longer animated.

Always less than expected.
And now unimproved for 2008.

There are detailed thread discussions on how Verizon customers are unable to use GPS on their devices outside of VZNav. That is not a new "feature" of this release.

Default 2.0.3 works for me - 03-17-2008, 02:32 AM

Just installed it on my 8320. Not noticed anything different to 2.0.1 yet. They seem to have fixed the slowness that was in 2.0.2.

Default Clearing Map Cache - 03-17-2008, 08:49 AM

Does 2.0.3 have a way to clear just the map cache without losing Cookies, Favorites, History of Search Terms, and Preferences? If not, is there a setting to limit the cache size?

2.0.1 is working fine for me, but the cache was taking up 5MB, and to clear it, I saw only one option to "Reset Google Maps", which clears out everything.

As I understand it, to prevent problems, you should look to keep at least 16MB free on a Curve (I currently have 20MB free) and the map cache takes me below this level.

TIA for any help.

I used 2.0.1 all over the US and it normally would tag me close to the cell tower the phone was using. This is something different and not related to the Verizon internal GPS saga. Why would the program show me in Austin Texas when I was in Brenham? Bizaaaaaaaaare.

I guess they have the cell tower geocoded incorrectly. You should send them a note. I guess everything really is bigger in Texas!

It would scroll like that for me in 2.0.1 for a while and then just stopped working. The only way I could get my gps location was to exit and reopen google maps. Upgrading to 2.0.3 didn't fix the scrolling problem. I haven't had time to play with it and figure out what's causing the problem yet.

2.0.3 still operates the same as 2.0.1, you only have the reset option which clears everything.

Thanks for taking the time to check, Hokie. Guess I'll wait for the next release as 2.0.1 is working fine for me.

on the way to work this morning, i was prompted for and accepted a google maps upgrade on my at&t blackberry 8820. the upgrade reportedly installed successfully. i haven't really had time to test. did not notice much different. was hoping that map feature would move better with me better, but it did not keep my location centered on page particularly well
