Then i think i updated to this 2.0.3 version and somehow i only get location from towers .. This version has 'my location beta' and i do have that feature activated .. yet, no gps accuracy !?

Is anyone esle having the same problems with the 8310 and Gmaps ??

Thanks,
AP.

P.S. yes, i am outside, BBmaps works with gps accuracy, Options-Advanced-GPS-Refresh shows 5 to 9 satellites registered, and every other GPS application that i have installed (GPSed for example) is having no problems communicating with the GPS

yes, all permissions for Gmaps is set to ALLOW and i have un/re/installed many times .. same problem !
I finally figured out how to get google maps work with internal gps 8310 4.5.0.18.
Google offers you wrong application to download if you go from your phone browser -40.You need 42.
Copy url and change all 40s to 42 and you will have goggle maps working with internal gps

I want the old one back! The IT policy on my phone won't let the new one load. I get an error: "Uncaught exception: Access to the Persistent Store is not permitted by your IT Policy"

It sucks b/c it is MY phone but I have to go through enterprise activation with my company to get company email/calendar etc.

Please help.

Which version did you have before? It might help to talk to your IT department. Google Maps is a popular app and *most* IT departments know about it and will support it.

and you would be right !!!

thanks !!! I was looking for this for days !!!

P.S. this works great with OS 4.5.0.10 and 4.5.0.18 ..
if you have a Berry 8310 and ANY OS you can simply use Gmaps version 2.0.1 and it will also work - this problem appeared (in my case) with the newest version (2.0.3) and the carrier specific OTA installation. In my case (i use T-Mob) they would send me Gmaps for Berry 40 because T-Mob only sells the 8320 without internal GPS .. if you had an ATT on the other hand and you went to the same web site (google.com/gmm) you would get Gmaps for Berry 42.
I think that Google should (1) let us download whatever we need instead of sending us what they THINK is right (which in my case was the wrong software since i had the 8310) and (2) PLEASE let us download the zip file and possibly older versions .. why should OTA be the ONLY way to install ??

Hagarr .. do you have the link to version 2.0.1 ?
If not i can email it to you .. let me know .. (size wise it is smaller than the 2.0.3 version and i personally cannot find any differences - it acquires satellites as fast and it does have the address book plug in) ..

I think that BBmaps for 8310 owners is the best mapping application hands down. But for those that dont have an internal GPS receiver then i guess google maps is the way to go.

just my .02

I use both .. what i like about BBmaps is the North-up / Track-up option that Gmaps does not have .. what i like about Gmaps (in certain occasions not really when driving or for turn-by-turn directions) is that i can download and view satellite images ..
Another thing i like about BBmaps is that is shows speed/road name/and number of sats acquired while Gmaps doesn't .. but with Gmaps you can click on any point on the map and get driving directions there - while with BBmaps you have to either enter an address or have that map location set as a favorite (or in address book) before hand.
Both great software and good enough to make me leave the nuvi home 99% of the time.

Default GPS and Google maps - 04-27-2008, 05:06 PM

Hi Everyone,
Im trying to get my curve (bell) to use the GPS with google maps instead of the "my location"
Has anyone figured it out?
I have tried the latest version 2.03 as suggested in prior posts.

Any help would be appreciated..

Also, I just tried Nav4all. Anyone use that?

thanks

2.0.3 does not recognise internal GPS on the CDMA Curve. Hopefully it gets fixed once the American carriers release it.

2.0.3 has issues .. lol .. anyway ..

try this 2.0.3 with internal GPS (that's #42)

http://tinyurl.com/4zwtr2 (this is OTA installation)

if it is not your carrier - this version of 2.0.3 should work .. (had the same problem)

AP.

hm .. i dunno .. but every time i saw what Bluetooth option in my menu, the internal GPS of the 8310 -never- worked ..

see these post here:
PROBLEM WITH Google Maps v.2.0.3 (#2035) - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com

and Gmaps 2.0.1 always worked for me - with either OS version (i tried 3 of them)

Another thing i would recommend (ESPECIALLY if you don't need the tower triangulation and have an internal or BT GPS) is windows live search .. wls.live.com (OTA installation) ..

I do prefer Google over anything Ms .. but hey .. if Gmaps doesn't want to recognize your GPS give this a try .. it is actually quite good and it does track your location (also gives you movie times)

It's got me about a mile away from where I am working in downtown Austin. I'm using an ATT 8310 w/ Googlemaps downloaded Saturday from google's website. The version shows as 2.0.3. and when I check help>about, I see Platform: Blackberry-8310_v4_2.

Is the version 42? Are the buildings in downtown Austin messing up the GPS reading? I see no indication as to how it determines "my location".

>welcome to the forums<

version 4_2 is what you need with the 8310
(4_0 would not find the internal gps)

-SO- what you have there should work.. the only reason that your location is off by that much is satellite locking. IF you see a light-blue circle around the blue dot in the center then you don't have satellite reception. Go out and wait ..........
Another thing you can try if version 2.0.1 .. that always works with my 8310 regardless of the OS version and it acquires satellites quite fast too ..

AP,
Should Gmaps use the GPS automatically with my location? Or does it have to be setup.
Otherwise my location is found via triangulation.

By the way live.com isnt avail for us up in Canada
thanks again for your help!

Default Update thread? - 04-30-2008, 07:17 PM

Suggestion:
Given the new version of google maps perhaps someone should update the title of thread to Google Maps 2.1.x or 2.x.

Great news - Google Maps 2.1.0 fixes my Bluetooth GPS issues! (I have an Ambicom GPS, cheap from Frye's, with an 8130 Verizon)

Previously, Google Maps 2.0.3 was not 'aggressive' enough in getting GPS data via Bluetooth, but I can now see them communicating much quicker. The entire application seems to be snappier too.

Thanks Google!

Does this work with the internal GPS on the 8830 if you're not paying for the VZNav service?

Any luck with getting GMM to work on the 8330? I'm waiting for Sprint to release it and I want to make sure it works before I run out and get one.

It works much better on the 8330 than the previous version did - the menu doesn't have any lag anymore. But the internal GPS is not - it still uses the triangulation method and there is a "Bluetooth GPS" option in the menu.

I'm not concerned (yet) - when Telus first launched the 8830, internal GPS didn't work until the phone was more popular in the USA. Google probably hasn't had their hands on a 8330 yet, maybe they don't even know its been available for weeks already.

Unlike 2.03n it works. It seems quite a bit faster to me but I don't know if that is because of the server.

My results are pretty much the same as above. It looks the same, but it definitely refreshes and loads much faster for me. I don't have GPS, so obviously I can't comment on that.

Anyone else having issues getting past a permissions that says, "The application GoogleMaps is attempting to access radio information that may identify your location." No matter what I click (allow or deny) it locks up the Google Maps application. I am unable to get past this. this is on 8320 with BT GPS.
