I was using the t-mobile zen theme which didn't show compass movement. I switched to the at&t theme and now it moves.
The GPS locator in google maps app is really giving me fits though. The first time I started it up after install, it pin pointed me with 10 meters. I started farting around with the app(directions, turning my location on and off) and now it only can approximate my location. I have turned it on and left it outside for ~20min. Tried the battery pull... But it still cannot accurately locate me.
I am gonna try and uninstall and re-install.

On the BB, which browser are you using? Rogers WAP or BlackBerry Browser?
I alternate between the 2 on occasion to get around these errors.

I'm using Opera. I just don't understand why on Googles site it says my phone number is invalid.

Update: Google Maps started pin pointing my location (within 3 meters) yesterday around 5pm Central time. Woohoo
Not sure what caused it to start working. Maybe the satellites where busy when i tried it earlier.

still new to this whole BB thing. I went in and turned the GPS from 911 only to on. Im with Verizon, and using google maps it seems to be working (showed my location to within 5000 meters. Am i correct in assuming the GPS google maps works with Verizon??

You are only getting cell tower triangulation, not gps. GPS will not work with Google Maps on Verizon.

GMaps Mbl 2.2.1 Available -

It shows transit connections, but does not yet have the nifty "click on the bus stop to find out when the next bus arrives" feature offered on the PC version.
About as sexy as transit gets, frankly.

Yes, a data plan is required. Luckily I have Bell's $30/mo unlimited data and email plan!

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)
They all need data plans. There is no good mapping app that doesn't need a data plan.

What Next? -

GMapsMobile 2.2.1 is pretty sweet app, but it could be better. How?
1) The ability to send 'my favourites' off the phone via email or SMS. It'd be a great way to convey directions to a meeting to someone. Provided that they too are a GMM user, of course.
2) The ability to send my favourites to / from a desktop, again via SMS or email.
3) I really like the transit directions on 2.2.1, but on Gmaps desktop, you can zoom in on an individual bus stop, and when you click on it, get the time that the next bus will arrive. I don't know about other cities, but in Vancouver, GMM doesn't allow this - yet. This week I found myself riding the Skytrain, trying to determine if I'd make my bus connection at the station, and as my location changed, GMM kept re-assessing my route. It would have been easier to click on the stop and get the departure times at that location only, instead.
Any other comments or suggestions?

1)The ability to track and recalculate.
2)The ability for the program to give me voice notification of turns.

Version 2.2.2 has been released. The Voice Search on CDMA Pearl phones still doesn't work. It erroneously detects the OS as 4.2. Pearls (8130) shipped with 4.3.
