OK, it took a couple of minutes and pushing 0 to update, but it transferred over to GPS location when I walked outside, located me within 3 meters.

I set my boss's 8830 to Location On and I swear he was ready to start doing cart wheels when he saw it load and it nailed his location to 200 meters.

Nope. I don't think VZW can do anything about this unless they drop Google all together. Their own nav uses tower trianglation.

So much for Verizon's pathetic crippling excuses. It's all about the money. Looks like they can take their navigator and shove......

The new program works well. I am inside a building with very low signal and it is less than a quarter mile off. Not as accurate as the internal disabled GPS, but it is still a lot better than what we had before.

FYI, I did not have any freezing issues.

Sure. But the fact that verizon users can now use "Google Maps" with some GPS functionality is a huge win for consumers.

This sounds like something I want (Tmob 8100). 2 questions: I already have Google Maps, so I just install it and don't remove the existing version first? Can this use tower triangulation to locate me (I don't use a GPS puck)?

You're right and to give you the updates i found interesting are:

(1) Now you can scroll your trackball to the right to go straight into edit mode when you highlight a direction field,NICE!!!

(2) It's definitely faster when zooming ( i thought EDGE network upgraded ), lol.

(3) The menu icon it's now animated ( the arrow moves ).

(4) Can set it to always enable bluetooth when program initializes.

(5) Next and previous direction keys are now 4 and 6 ( not a big deal from 1 and 3 ).

(6) Press the "#" sign to toggle between " map view " and " List view ".

(7) I think now the new version 2.0 supports transparent menu windows created on any themes, before the transparent windows would disappear leaving visible the solid color window. This is a very nice observation from the google team, KUDOS!

(8) Loving the my lotion feature.

P.S. I just wish now that the next version would atleast include a " REVERSE DIRECTIONS " feature.

Other than that the new version will be a big hit along with the new google updater which gave me the update. I always believed in you google, you guys are the #@!%.

Nice "My Location" feature. Works great on my 8100.

In the old version (1.6.something), I used to toggle the traffic view on/off using the # key. This no longer works. Documentation for 2.0.0 states that traffic can be toggled on/off using the 7 key, but this key pans to the left. I've tried every key on the keyboard, and nothing toggles traffic on/off. Is this a bug?

I really liked the one button toggle on/off for traffic.

Installed ok on my 8700g..... Only irritation is the Enable Bluetooth? Prompt keeps coming back when I have clicked no. But otherwise, pretty cool.

Anybody seeing major battery drain with this? Seems like my battery went down quick after I installed, but could be coincidental. I'll do a full reset just in case...

It has me 800 meters off and thats when I'm outside. I did a battery pull and refreshed the GPS. Then launched it and still 800 meters off. Tried the location menu and that didn't help any.

You have to go into the google maps bluetooth gps menu then disable it there.

I like the new version, but if anyone's unhappy, Google keeps the old versions on their servers.

For example, here's the link to an older version for the 8700:

http://www.google.com/gmm/apps/v1.6....00_v4_1_L1.jad

Messing around with the URL should get you the link for your desired version and device.

Thanks. I may downgrade. I can't decide which I like more: My Location, or one-button traffic toggling.

Anyway to keep the screen on? I know it will drain the batter faster but it would be a nice option to have like in telenav and bbmaps

I removed it off my 8310. I stood outside while I was on a smoke break and it never got closer then 800 meters. I tried the location menu and still didn't get any closer so I don't see it bumping from the cell towers to the internal GPS. Maybe I'll try it later this week but too many other issues going on today to mess with this.

On my 8830, the # doesn't do anything. I press 2 to switch between map and satellite view. 1 zooms in, 3 zooms out. 7 toggles traffic.

Heh.. it sounds like Google aced Microsoft again... reference this thread about Windows Live Search working on an 8703e in the LA area. But it sounds the new Google maps is working with Verizon devices everwhere.

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...8703e-gps.html

Sorry, I had to say that.

I'm going to try this but should I remove the old Google maps first? Or does it matter?
