My Google Maps is screwing with my moto s9's.
I am listening to Tenacious D Pick of destiny, decided to pop open Google Maps. My headset would disconnect, connect, disconnect, in a loop. Quit google maps and all is well again.

i installed it directly over the previous 1.6 version. It will ask if you want to overwrite..which i did..still no issues at all..
and yes..tower triangulation works..locates you immediately once you are connected...

I think it's just too buggy to use right now, I just pushed out the link http://www.google.com/gmm/apps/v1.6....00_v4_2_L1.jad to everyone over the BES until I see more people without issues running it. So far a LOT of curve users are having issues and that's what we primarily use here are 8310's. Locations are just too far off to be useful.

This is excellent. Gmaps found it's way back up to the main screen of my 8130.

I loaded on my 8320 and, without my BT GPS, it gives my location to "within 5000 meters." It's got me located about 2-3 miles from my location. When I drove around town it stayed in the same location then would bump 2-3 miles to another spot. Doesn't look like it comes anywhere close to doing as well as a GPS but it's neat. It will make searches easier as, at least, it will show you in the right town.
However, the rest of the app has been working smooth. The only gripe I have is the Bluetooth nagging prompt if your bluetooth is turned off. Every 5 seconds is a bit much.
Also, I noticed hitting the "Esc" key does NOT close the app anymore. You have to do Menu >Exit. If you hit escape to go do something else the app continues to run and you will very likely hit your battery pretty hard.

#1 - It's still beta.
#2 - See YouTube video which says it will get better the more you use it AND it's beta.

I was outside for an hour and it still didn't pick me up using the satellites outside. I have 4 guys that are not inside a building at all and they all give me the same feedback as I'm seeing.

Audit,
Are you picking up satelite info? If you go to Options >Advanced Options >GPS do you have lat/long info there?
As soon as I connected my BT GPS the location jumped right to my exact location. It should do the same with the internal GPS.

OK, am I missing something?
In the Help menu, under "Pan Around", does it not say that the 7 key pans left?
And then, under "Highway Traffic", does it not say that the 7 key requests traffic?
So which is it, Google? My 7 key pans left. What does your 7 key do?
This has to be a mistake, right?

JC,
yes I'm getting satellite info just fine, my GPS is working great and Telenav is working great also. I've been playing with this thing all damn day and it's only hit my exact location within 10 meters 1 time and then I had to reboot my BB after removing another app that I wasn't using and since then it's back to 800 meters only.

Ok, I installed it with no problems, but it has My Location about 8.5 miles off! The screen says "approximate location within 5000 meters", which is a little over 3 miles. Surely they can do better than that!!

Yeah, something isn't quite right. It should pinpoint with GPS pretty well.
I'm not too impressed with the triangulation but it does narrow down when I turn on GPS.

I'd kill for the Zip of this install to have on the BES. Googles site is so damn slow that I can't try it with the 8800's
Does anyone have a copy of the 1.6.4 BES files? The best I had on the server was 1.6.2

I wonder what exactly are the "lot of curve users are having issues". What kind of issues are they?
I might try to push back to the 1.6.4. Anyone has the 1.6.4 for 8700g 4.2.x OS?

8700c and when I hit 'z' the traffic pops up. They've also changed the directions, 3 used to move me up a step, but now it's 6.
As for the triangulation, it's working pretty good for me. It says within 1700 meters and it's only off by a couple of hunded feet. Not bad!!
I'm definately liking it!!
Verizon Wireless 9630 Tour....finally switched to 'Big Red' and the Tour made me do it!

All of these are personal 8310's that people have purchased. Our company doesn't supply regular users with BB's. Even the Exec's are having issues with theirs. Each one was purchased at different times, different stores, etc.
Any 8310 has issues with it not using the built in GPS, mine used it 1 time and that was it. I'm the only one that's in the office now and everyone else is out driving to or from clients or on their way home, when I asked everyone over BBM, they all have said that non of them have zero'd in on them yet. The people I'm asking are not the average user either. I've personally trained each one and they know what they are doing before they call me with a issue.

11-28-2007, 04:49 PM
On my 8320 using the triangulation and with no GPS puck. It isn't that accurate, but it's been pretty close so far, and much, much better than nothing.
Also (and I apologize if this has already been mentioned), but I noticed that when you're in the address book, with a contact highlighted, pressing the menu key now gives you the option of "show on Google Maps." (It'll even ask you which address you want to show.) Which is the only reason I kept BB Maps around. Now that I can do this with Google Maps, combined with "My Location," hasta to BB Maps.

Huh? I could always get local searches if I put in a location first, then searched. I guess you mean if you don't know where you are you can get local searches?

yes but... it shows the company name in preference to the persons first, last name (when viewed on the map)... is that what others are seeing? I'm a 8703e VZW OS 4.1
GMM shows me in the same part of town, but outside the range of error (700m), and probably about 1500 away from my true location. I'm about to go on a drive, so maybe it will get better...

Same here... Shows company name instead of person's name.
But if ther is no company name in address book entry, just a name, then google maps shows persons full name.

Cool feature, but sems to have a bug somehwere. If I choose a contact with multiple addresses (home, work, etc), it does allow me to choose which one....but if I meant to choose ANOTHER contact, I can't back out of the screen. I have to choose one of the incorrect addresses.

Humm, only a little off (like a few miles), but not bad for a free new feature to GMM. I think it's about as acurate as VZNav (HAHAHAHA!).
Anyway, the LBS portion of this via triangulation is still very much BETA guys. I hope the system will get better, but FREE is good.
BTW, if you go on the Help/About screen you can see the myl (My Location) cordinate readout.

If you have multiple addresses, then you can't back out if you don't want to choose either. Minor bug. Also on some of my addresses it seemed to pull the fax number and not sure why. Seems to have corrected itslef though.

I have been using this all day while on travel from Denver to Oklahoma City and back. I hve it on a 7130e on VZW, installed with no technical issues or usage issues.
I can say that although I have not used all the features, it is a pretty cool little app. Driving, its a bit all over the place (faster to you go, less accurate). It had me pinpointed from 700 to 5000 meters along the way. It was off at times by 15 or so city blocks (when I was doing 65MPH) but was pretty close when standing still.
For a beta, I am pretty happy with it. although I am not going to rely on it totally for turn by turn, I probably wont get vznav now.
I imagine the triangulation will get better with time, just like the commercial GPS did (as opposed to military). I like the ad features, especially for when i am new cities. hard to figure out where you are sometimes in a new place, especially if you are jonesin' for a cup of brew or a quick bite.

ok...
for those of you that are having the problem of the BB freezing up on the initial load of Gmaps i figured out a soulution. pop the battery so it un-freezes and then in options/advancedoptions/applications. you can edit the permissions to allow all the neccessary connections there. this seems to be where it is hanging up. it then brings up the licence sreen and away you go.

Just installed this on my 8100 Pearl. No issues. I am about a football fields length away from a T-Mobile tower on a watertower while in my house but My Location seems to be showing me on a tower in a neighboring town as "within 5000 meters"
I'll have to check it out as I move around on my way to work tomorrow.
