Bingo. Very well done my friend. When on GSM (because Qualcomm didn't make that chipset) the GPS is off, even E911 doesn't work. Why, because gpsOne is the only chipset in this mofo. So unless someone is going to open one up and specifically compare it chip for chip against the 8800 I'll have to agree with what others have recently found about the 8830.

Right, I'm on BIS and was just wondering if I could use the above providing files to install on my BB via DM. Thanks.

Yes. The above file contains the app for most models. You just need to pick the model for you.

Anyone know how to keep it from zooming in on your location when you first start the program?

I normal leave the view zoomed out showing the freeways between work and home with the traffic on, but sometimes when I start the program the map center moves to my location and zooms in.

Have you tried a battery pull?

If battery pull doesn't do it, then try uninstalling, then a battery pull, then reinstall.

I would like to know this, too. I haven't found a way. Someone posted in this thread that you can turn off My Location, but I haven't found a way to do that either. If anyone knows how, please share.

From what I can see, the app zooms to the approximate diameter of the uncertainty circle. At least that's what I see in my case. I haven't really looked, but also haven't come across a setting to alter this. Turning off my location would be first thing I would try.

Default Google maps just doesn't work - 12-24-2007, 02:46 PM

Hi,

I have a bb 8100 provider vodafone in the netherlands. When I try to get google maps from Google Maps it gives always the same reaction even after voicestream.wap etc. and reboot.

The error is:
error: unauthorized manifest descriptor or applicationdescriptor

The 'MIDlet-name' is not availeable

Do you know what I have to do???

Thnx

Default 8320 Freezing - 12-27-2007, 06:05 PM

I have just downloaded Google Maps through my Wifi connection. The icon appears, however when I click on the icon my 8320 freezes.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? And if anybody knows why this may be happening?

My next step is just to remove the application from my blackberry altogether.

Finally, i can use gmm in my pearl 8100. Yeah... it is really great.
If your ph is freezing...

1. uninstall gmm
2. reinstall
3. pull battery about 1 min+

and try again. I could solve freezing problem by doing above steps.

Yeah!!! GMM

My *guess* would be that the freezing issues are permissions issues or apn issues.

Yes, turning off My Location (go to help, my location to turn it off) does stop it from zooming in, but it also stops the GPS completly.

I just did some testing and it is related to the approximation though. If I start google maps after I have a gps fix, it shows my location within 3 meters and does not zoom. If I start it without gps fix, it shows my location within 800 meters and then zooms in.

I hope the next version has a way of turning of the cell tower locating and using only the true gps locating, or even just an option to stop the auto zooming.

I like the new version, but might have to go back to 1.64 if they don't fix this soon.

I just loaded this today and it's really slow with My Location running. Everything lags....hit menu and try to scroll through and there is quite a delay. I turned off the My Location (now I can't use GPS or anything) and it sped right up. I may downgrade back to 2.0.1 as I don't remember it lagging like this.

John, your reasons are exactly why I downgraded back to v2.0.1
