wow, google maps on the 8310 is freaking cool! one quick question... obviously, your free memory goes down when you use it a lot. what's the best way to keep clearing it? just "clear map"? i noticed that also takes away your faves, but i'm wondering if that's the only way to keep the program from taking up a lot of memory?

Great question, I was wondering this, too. My call logs just deleted a couple days ago from lack of memory so I cleared out old emails and pictures, but I use gmaps many times a day everyday for my job, so I know that its taking up a lot of space. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I wasn't talking about freeing up the phone memory... just looking for a way to free up the map cache on Google Maps? Is the only way to do it by pushing "clear maps", even if it does get rid of your favorites too?

I think theres a memory cleaner option in BB that lets you do that, i think you go into security option and mess with the settings there, not sure where i saw it.

Looks like maybe I do. And it is the same thing (unless you are refferring to a 3rd party app, in which case it wouldn't be a security setting on the blackberry). If you enable content protection, that enables the option for memory cleaning. Options > security options > memory cleaning. From there you can enable clean when holstered, clean when idle, and show icon on home screen. The is the memory cleaning discussed in the thread I linked to, as well as John Clark's comment on the function.

Not at all, is sort of like a hidden feature some BB's have. On the pearl i use to own you would have to enable it through some steps but i just went into my 8310 and just saw an option that said show memory cleaner icon on desktop from within the security menu option.

that memory cleaner should automatically run. it is a security feature of the blackberry that cleans the cache whenever you put your BB in a holster or any other time you want. It doesnt include map data. Address book Certificate Status and Search, Clipboard, Content Protection, Encrypted messages, key store and PGP key search are all included

According to John Clark's comment in the thread I linked above, this only scrubs free memory for security purposes. It doesn't free up memory for use by other spplications. I don't know any better, so I take his word for it. Seems to me if an app has info cached, this will not clear it.

EDIT: Sith, I see on second glance your statement about maps. I think you are saying same as I, the memory cleaner will not do the desired freeing of google maps cache.

Just got a new 8310 and loaded GMaps 2.0.1. Pretty useful, but not very accurate. Getting within 1000m is rare. Internal GPS is active.

^Try a refresh of your gps - settings - Advanced options - gps - menu - refresh gps

hey guys so i got the 8830 from vzw and i got the BIS unlimited data for 30 a month i was just double checking that google maps just uses the unlimited data plan and their are no other surcharges? i posted in another forum but only got 1 helpful person any other info anyone has would be great

There is no extra charge for Google Maps as long as you have unlimited data plan.

I just got this and had to try it out. It says it has my location up to 1700 meters well its not even close to where im at!
