excellent so far. update went smooth. so far so good. i changed my settings to BIS and it seems to be a drop faster. also is there any way to make the memory cache higher? perhaps if you choose to use the sdcard allaow for more space. (what is the flash option?)

Hi. I assume the beta is closed, but I would really like to get a copy. I am a registered user since your original program was released and a registered Pocketday user.
I have an AT&T 8310 on BES. V. 4.2.2.170.
Thanks.

Ani,
I sent you this directly, but I'll post it here, too...
Minor one. In header display options, "Magenta" is mis-spelled "Magneta."
Great update! I love the new functionalities!

Hi Ani,
I notice a "lag" in navigating the menu when in an email. For example, if I have an email highlighted and press the BB button, the trackball navigation is instantaneous with my movement of the ball. However, if I have an email open and press the BB button, the trackball navigation is noticably slower and it lags behind my movement of the ball.

Hi Ani,
Another observation.
When I scroll down far enough inside a message that it has to receive more I have to exit the message and open it again to see the rest of it (you knew this already). However, the message gets flagged as new again, presumably after the rest of it is downloaded. This results in a new message notification on an old message.

Alas, it didn't for me and Ani had to send me the direct URL. I sent a note to him with a brainstorm about why it didn't work (basically the crappy Wifi in the 8320 cutting out sometimes), but I have yet to hear back - I don't want to present it as 'the' problem until we've discussed it further.
What I do know is that currently it's set to check every 6 hours; I have a list of feature requests in to make this all user-configurable and disable-able for people without data plans, check on demand, etc. Hopefully they make it into a future beta...

Interesting -- I never experienced that without Empower installed. Maybe because I don't have to close the message to see the entire thing with the RIM app -- I can just continue down as it loads.

I believe the "get more" problem is specific to OS 4.3 so you might not see it on other devices.

Empower Mail Viewer Integration APIs -
12-04-2007, 09:48 AM
Quick notes.
cdmaguy, chrscott - yep, Empower version 3.0 is compatible with 4.3 except a couple of issues that need to be ironed out.
mdlissner - Thanks for the suggestion. We will make PIM Integration user configurable in the final release.
Nathan, Tommy -
Empower Manages the Cache by itself, removing oldest files first to make space for new files. The size of cache is left to the user to decide: default is 250kb, you can set it upto 2.5 MB. Also of the three options for Cache, the SD Card is currently not implemented in the beta build 29 that you have. It will be there in the next update.
Autoupdate? Worked perfectly for all, except 4 reported instances. Rivviepop did some excellent brainstorming into it, and his suggestion of on-demand updates will be there in the upcoming update.
dbltap, knocka, bb8100 and others waiting -
We are progressing well with EMV 3.0 There has been excellent feedback from the beta team, and we have made 2 releases of EMV 3.0 in the beta itself. A 3rd release build is coming up later tonight. We are trying to incorporate the best features from usability perspective. Give us some time, it will be worth the wait.
The final version will be a paid upgrade. I have not really thought of a number, but given the list of features we have for you, you will love it for the price you can have it. Exact details will be posted along with the release notes later this week. (Needless to say, the beta team gets a free license for helping us with all their hard work.)
Another big news (a few already know) is that starting EMV 3.0 we are now providing a set of APIs for Empower that allows any 3rd party vendor to integrate the mail-viewing capabilities of Empower inside their App!
I believe this is a step in the right direction, as it brings greater benefits to the end users. The joint user base always wins PocketDay has taken the initiative and integrated Empower into its latest release. If you are a 3rd party developer and want to benefit your users by integrating Empower, just drop us a line. Take the APIs and go, win.
Thanks,
Ani.
PS: The 3rd beta release I spoke of earlier in this post, was actually supposed to be last night itself (but RIM servers were down so well you know..... ) We will be making another beta update later tonight.

You might want to change the thread title to "Empower Mail Viewer Beta Testing" and then change it to release when it is.... released.
Thanks.

Hi Ani,
I did not see these in your post so maybe you have not addressed them yet. If you delete an email while you have it open, it stays there until you close it.
When looking at a reply, the original message is not quoted in the reply.
"Auto more" appears to be working -- will wait to see after I get more long messages to be sure.
All the colors are very nice to have. However, the color selection box covers just about all of my screen so it's hard to see what it will look like unless I actually select it and save. Not a big deal, but would be good to make the selection text/box a little smaller.
Thanks.

Hi Ani, the latest 34.7 release seems to working a bit snappier. But I am still having the problem with "auto more" as well as manually selecting "more" or "more all" not working until I close and reopen the message.
Also, I'm not sure if this is possible, but having a functional scrollbar showing an indication where one is located in the message, similar to the default app, would be very useful.
Thanks again for a nice update!

ani, i've just updated emv 3.0 beta, and it show EMV trial (mypin)
and when i choose register, it pop "This version has web based automatic registration. Please contact support"
so it's mean starting this 3.0 version user has capability to change / transfer licenses to other handheld without contact support?
it will be great addition, because i purchase volume license on empower product (EMV and BES mailbox) and everytime i have user(s) change pin(s) i have to contact support to have license transfer to new pin.
maybe other will see it as great addition too
oh and shortcut J & K (jump to next / previous email with same topic) still not implement on this version

Ani,
Is there any chance that the update information for Empower could only show up when there is an update available?
I really like the update and the integration with Pocket Day.
Thanks,

Paid Upgrade?! -

While it is nice to reward you beta testers (which I wish I got in on), why would you make your existing customers pay for an upgrade? It is an upgrade, not a new installation. I believe that if people pay once they shouldn't have to pay everytime changes are made. What is to stop you from charging for a new version down the line that simply fixes a bug (ex. 3.0.1). This is just bad practice if you ask me.

While I would love to have a free upgrade, it's not all that uncommon to have to pay for major release upgrades. If I had paid $29.95 or $39.95 for an app like this, I might be a bit more concerned. Or if I bought it within the last.. oh say 90 days. But with the price we paid for this app @$9.95, I am not gonna squawk about a $5 upgrade for a major release.
As an example, I bought Eudora e-mail ver 1.0 almost 15 years ago. I paid for updates for versions 2.0, 3.0....to 7.0. I didn't pay for bug fixes in the X.0xx releases. But any time there was a major improvement, I paid a discounted upgrade price. And was happy to do so to support the effort to bring me new functionality.
I don't see this any different.

For as long as I can remember, incremental upgrades within a major version have been free, while major version upgrades have been at a cost. Typically, registered users get a discount as compared to new purchases of the latest version. That's just the way it goes in all software development, regardless of platform. (Think Vista, Leopard, etc.)

I absolutely agree! I already use this product, but if I were contemplating a purchase, why would I buy something that is going to cost me more for future upgrades? Just my opinion, but this is one user that will not be paying for this revision.

First, Good luck against Clemson.
Second, I agree with you. However, it is an issue of supply and demand. If it is a good product, we will pay within reason. Business 101.

For the beta, please put in only your OS Version & Model number in a post below. No need to put down your emails publicly, I will myself contact about 20 users for a quick beta before we go public with this. Also please note, you must have a registered version of EMV (free or purchased) on your device for this beta.
