Thanks for the heads up, JS.

Note to grabbers - it's easier if you first set up a Handango account with your device and PIN, and connect it to a Paypal account, *then* go back and click on the Free App Friday links. To get the free app you have to "check out" like you were buying, but the charge to your Paypal will be $0.00.

EDIT: watch out for the Handango setup/checkout, it will try and subscribe you to a bunch of spammy newsletters. I already had an account and the checkout process still added me to another list (I missed the checkbox on a page to undo it, they're checked by default) that I had to go and unsubscribe from just now. grrrr.

Thanks!!! I had a passing interest in this application, as I normally read the threads associated, but would've never, ever bought it.

We need a Free App Friday ongoing thread. It's no telling what else I may have missed by forgetting to go to the site every week.

I almost bought this thing a month ago but thought it was overpriced. Went with the built in BB password keeper instead. But for free, I think it's priced about right. Thanks for the tip.

I'd say that he just made a template and types entires in the field. I'm not sure if there is a character limit in the fields.

Yeah, that's what I'm currently using. I like KeePass a lot, and it syncs perfectly with the desktop version through Desktop Manager.

I grabbed DataVault during the "Free App Friday" promotion, but I'm not sure if I'm going to use it.

The upside to DataVault is that there are many different types of templates for the different types of passwords/cards/info you want to store. It appears to be a more varied and useful product.

The downside to DataVault is that the registration code is linked to your PIN. If you ever upgrade to another device, you'd need to buy the product again. So, even if you were able to grab it for free during "Free App Friday," it will only remain free as long as you own your current device.

The upside to KeePass is that the desktop and BB versions are open-source and will remain free indefinitely. Although there are some limitations in the software, I like knowing that I can always move the software to another device. For example, if my BB stops working next week, I'll get a replacement because my BB is still under warranty. Technically speaking, I'd have to purchase DataVault again (of course, they may be sympathetic to you and give you a free registration; but, technically, you would have to buy again), but KeePass would always be free.

Yeah, at the time of my question, I had just downloaded the program in case I needed it for future use. I hadn't actually done any fiddling around with it. I think I know how he did it now and there is a 10,000 character limit in the notes section according to Ascendo.

Thanks for being willing to help me, though.

Thanks also to stars. People were looking for a diary/journal software for the past two months or so. I don't think anyone would've thought of Data Vault.

I think I read in one of Ascendo's threads, that you would be able to move the application to another device. Either with their help or with Handango's. I think it was in the announcement of Data Vault 4. Check that one.
