Default Convenience Software Releases DoIt Pro: Simple Easy Todo List - 12-02-2007, 10:55 PM

Hey guys,
My company Convenience Software just released our latest piece of software for the Blackberry called DoIt Pro. As was called for on this very forum, DoIt Pro is a simple and easy to do list that is fast to learn and extremely helpful. In addition to this, your to do list can be updated remotely, so if for example your spouse would like you to go shopping, she need only send you an email with "newtasktodo" in the subject line and whatever is in the body of the email will automatically get added to your to do list.
It's $14.99, and there is a free trial available at Convenience Software: Home of FindIt and DoIt Pro..
If you have any questions please contact me at [email address]

My comment is that I downloaded it, but every time I try to start it, I get this message:

Error starting DoItDemo: Module 'Task' not found.

I don't know if something is missing from Handango's download, but I can't test it as of now. Is anyone else having this problem?

Kendall, same here. And I want this one to work. I have looked at so many task apps, this one seemed to have some promise.

Whew! I was really hoping that I wouldn't get a "here you go, lugnut" post telling me how to download it. I wanted to see how it worked before I told the guy that it was too expensive.

Yes, its simplicity is what people have been craving, but I think he'd make more money at a different price point. From the screen shot, it is still too easy to say, "nevermind, I'll keep making memos, before I shell out $14.99."

$7.00-10.00 sounds quite irresistible, however.

Ok thanks for the feedback. I lowered the price to $7.99 and fixed all the problems with the demos (they now come from my site not Handango.) Please let me know if you have any further questions, comments or suggestions.

lol, well, the demo literally works one time. I opened it and input one to-do item, closed the app to go back to it and I get the "buy it" message.

The new download works OTA for me, and the new price is obviously more attractive. The app is small, less than a 10k download!

It does appear to be a very basic and uncomplicated to-do task list. I don't see any alarms, and no real options to set.

I am curious how the the "newtasktodo" automation works.

I like the way it apparently can auto-add tasks from emailing. Does the app then sync with Tasks in Outlook? Or is it separate and stand-alone?

I don't know, the one-shot demo expired after 20 seconds. It would be nice to find out, though.

Hey, just because you were willing to lower the price, (should've said $5.00. ) without me being able to actually critique the program, I went ahead and bought it without even trying the demo. If you have that much confidence in your program, then I will too.

I'll let everyone know how I like it and try to answer some questions, but it will be sporadic tonight, I'm watching the game.

Default Refund - 12-03-2007, 09:49 PM

It will take a little while for your Blackberry to install the program, and you will see the hourglass for a little while. If you wait a few minutes it will successfully install. If, however, you are convinced that you have successfully "killed your Blackberry" I would be glad to refund your money just email me.

Kendall, have you removed the battery and replaced it to reboot the BB?

Well I refunded the money. It's definitely not your fault, this should not have happened. I will be working on any fix I can think of and will get back to you shortly. I've never heard of anything like this happening before.

Ok, I have it installed now and testing it. So far so good... the email injection feature is pretty cool, I just need to not tell my wife how it works. I will play with this a day and report back!

Oh, I'm jealous, but I'm glad that it is working for you. I want major details so I can decide whether I should step up to 4.2.

KendallParis-
Were you able to get your BB to work again after downloading this app? I held off on trying this app when you had your problems. I see you edited out your posts regarding the problems you had, but I didn't see a resolution.

Um, yeah I did. I had to force a wipe as advised by John Clark in another thread. I stated that I would delete my posts if I could just get the unit working again and since I was able to see its beautiful screen, I wanted to keep my word.

I knew that eventually someone would ask, so I decided to wait until the opportunity presented itself. The creator and owner of Convenience Software was unbelievably apologetic and concerned about my issue. He is making whatever adjustments he can to the software and it looks like the issue occurred because I'm not on 4.2. It was not written or specified before because he probably wasn't aware that there would be an issue.

However, he knows, and I want anyone that read the thread at that time to know, that I am still very interested in adding this application and I still believe in its potential as well as the company. If he can modify it for the users that are not completely satisfied with 4.2, like myself, I'll be elated. If not, then I will have to decide if I'm willing to give up a few other things in order to get DoIt Pro.

Currently there is no way to delete, but there will be a free update to all customers this weekend that will add a delete feature, as well as a few other features and fix a bug with the email injection.

Was there an update to the software this past weekend?

Also, I have noticed a bug. I can't uncheck a task item. When I close out of the app and open it back up, the task item is still checked.

I have used the application several days now.

I like this for a very simple and basic to-do checklist. It is easy enough to open, use and is not a large application for those memory-conscious users.

Pros:
--Absolutely simple. Nothing more basic.
--checking off items done.
--ability to add items to your list by email
--the developer has been easy to work with and open to ideas for what appears to be a developing application.

Cons:
--Current version there is no way to delete or hide the items after completion or checked.

Needs:
--Date to be completed, and alarms or reminders
--Ability to sort items by completion date
--Categories (Business, personal, etc.)

You can check out Gubb which allows you to create multiple simple to-do lists via browser. You can view them via mobile and also send a to-do item to any of your lists simply sending an e-mail. It works great.

Spartan - I read your 12/17 blog stating that "the replacement for DoIt Pro, TaskInjector is coming out hopefully tomorrow night". Will this be coming out tonight (12/18)? Is this free for those who purchased DoIt Pro? Thanks!

Thanks for mentioning this site. I'll have to try it and if it works, gently nag them to make an application launcher. I saw what you did in the web shortcut thread, but I could never get that to work for me.

What did not work for you?

After downloading and installing the ShortcutHub and at least one one shortcut, simply enter the information found on the screenshot attached in the ShortcutHub utility on your Blackberry (you can even point to Gubb icon on my server). The icon will not display until you click on the shortcut icon for the first time when it will then download the icon and then take you to Gubb's mobile site. When you close out, you will now notice the icon is updated correctly. You also have to do this anytime you reboot your Blackberry. It's a limitation in the Blackberry Shortcut app.

That should do it. You can click here to see it working correctly on my Blackberry.
