Default Checking Hotmail for emails. - 12-03-2007, 01:30 PM

Ok, after reading a bunch of threads, looks like it's not possible to get my AT&T Curve 8310 to have an app that lets me read my hotmail email from the BB. Ok.

How about just CHECKING my Hotmail account to see if I have email? I use Trillian for my desktop IM solution and it can be configured to at least check for email on Hotmail. Can an app on BB do that as well? I'd be more than happy to just KNOW if I have an email.

Anyone know if this is possible? Thanks all!

why not go to the hotmail access on your browser, will that not work?

I know the new hotmail accounts will not push to the BB, without getting Hotmail Plus, but still, web access should work.,

That's what I do right now, but was hoping for a more convenient way of doing it. Thanks.

Hotmail can be accessed via BIS.

Default BIS conflict with BES? - 12-03-2007, 02:39 PM

We're using a BES server for our internal corporate email. If I setup BIS on my BB, will it conflict with the BES settings?

Thanks for the info!

BIS and BES co-exist nicely on a single device. You can either use BES MailBox (3rd-party app) or create your own filter(s) to separate BES messages from BIS messades.

Default Thanks! - 12-03-2007, 03:14 PM

Setting up BIS is not part of our process as we have a BES server. I set it up and so far it looks like this will let me do what I want it to do. Even creates a separate icon on the BB desktop so I know which one to go into to check mail. Thanks!

Good that Hotmail worked on yours. Microsoft won't allow the newer Hotmail accounts on BIS, just won't. There are many threads here about the issue. Most BB users must upgrade to Hotmail Plus for Hotmail to push to the BB.

Default Update:Checking Hotmail for emails (SOLVED) - 12-22-2007, 10:11 AM

My OP was about checking my Hotmail account for emails. After setting up my BB for BIS. That's really not what I wanted. (Don't need my hotmail in my BES mailbox) I just wanted a simple way to know if I had gotten an email in my Hotmail account. Figured it out!!!

If you have a Hotmail Live account (Most of the new ones are), there is a setting under Options in the "Customize your mail" section called "Mobile alerts for new messages". This was the ticket for me. It's sends a SMS directly to my BB that notifies me. This is NOT an option for the older accounts but you can setup BIS for that. I have tried several Hotmail accounts and it works GREAT! It's nice in that I can configure it to send me notices from just my contacts.

THIS IS FREE!!!! YOU DON'T HAVE TO UPGRADE TO HOTMAIL PLUS FOR THIS TO WORK!!!

It was a little tricky setting up as I am on AT&T. I had to pick the Cingular Media Net option for the carrier and then put my cell # in. If your carrier isn't listed, you can also just put your email addr in.

Also, I would get the confirm code, but the sign up pages errord out. I had to manually finish the setup process (Basically select what to send the alert on) and BINGO!!!! SMS alerts direct to my BB for when I get emails.

I DID add alerts from this forum as well.

Merry Christmas all!!!!

Just out of newbie curiosity... why can you not have hotmail pushed to your BB. I have a regular, free hotmail account and it pushes to my BB flawlessly. Thanks for any info

Default You can... - 12-23-2007, 12:27 AM

I just don't want my my Hotmail emails intermingled with my BES forwarded emails.

Also, in order to use the Hotmail push ability, you need to upgrade your Hotmail to Hotmail Plus. That's a for pay service. Don't want to do that.
