Question PIM Productivity question... - 12-06-2007, 03:31 PM

How many of you out there use todoMatrix / ideaMatrix and do you use the apps as PIM replacements on your BB?

Well then let me rephrase my initial question, how many people would like to see TodoMatrix by RexWireless turn into a viable replacement for the native device PIM?

I'd love it, but the issue that I have is the absence of a desktop tool and the necessity of syncing to their servers. Call me paranoid, but that absence of control over my data is the deal breaker for me.

However, they are supposed to be moving toward integration with Outlook -- but will Outlook's limited feature set cripple them too much. I think that a new desktop app might be the way to go, unless they can plug into and modify the Outlook interface.

The big problem with todomatrix is: it is not compatible with the internal task DB. so you can't just synchronize your bb with the desktop (which runs outlook or apple ical). as a GTD user i switched over to NextAction! some months ago (they had a special offer) and am happy with it.

You know that has been one area of contention with me: I really like todoMatrix/ideaMatrix and can think of the possibilities, but I also like the native apps and being able to use BES and whatnot. I guess the only thing holding me back from deciding on which is better is whether or not I can structure my tasks similiar to what I do in todoMatrix, with BES or some other product. Plus I like todoMatrix's features, just dont like the lack of feedback from them, they are very very quiet. Guess that is cuz they promised things in the past and dont want to do that anymore.

I'd be happy if they created a Desktop App simply for tasks, and provided the ability to sync via DM much like Data Vault. Their products are clearly superior to Outlook in terms of their capabilities, and I suspect that Outlook will not change the structure of their tasks module because they want to promote sales of MS Project. As for the silence of the Rex folks, the integration step may be more work than they had initially planned. I'd rather see them get it right than have a buggy app delivered quickly.

Good point. From what I know about the outlook integration, they are building some type of tasks applet that will act as a conduit of some sorts to allow you to sync between todoMatrix and outlook. Now whether that is a desktop/web based or device based applet, I have no clue. I do/did like DataVaults interface, and ease of integration into the DM. I guess you can call it good ol "impatience" from me. I have seen a lot of software fall by the waistside in terms of quality, I just hope that they continue the good quality and ponder the possibilities for their products - and I know they will.
