Question JiveTalk New Message Alert - 12-07-2007, 04:44 PM

When using JiveTalk I would really like to have a new message notification on the top ribbon of the screen, much like BlackBerry Messenger, Facebook, etc. When I emailed BeeJive to ask about this, they told me this is not possible as RIM has not released the API's to access the top ribbon.

My questions are these: 1) Has anyone else asked about this? 2) Would it be worthwhile to email RIM and ask that they mend their ways? Because I don't get a notification on the top ribbon, I sometimes miss messages or respond to them late.

Does anyone else have this problem?

1) Yes it has been asked, I read it here top often.
2) Feel free. [email address]

You didn't ask, but I use the pop-up notification of an message, I don't miss them. A ribbon bar icon would be nice, though.

Thanks. I don't particularly care for the pop-up window, but I appreciate the suggestion. If I used a sound notification I could simply make it a unique tone, but I have to keep it on Vibrate most of the day. Ah well - I'll see what RIM has to say. For the billionth and first time.

That is my ONLY complaint with JiveTalk. I finally moved the icon to one of the first 5 so I could see it from the home (zen) screen.

Me as well... it is the bottom one and works fine for me.... although the standard icon showing would be nice too... ;)

I guess a follow-up question would be, why has RIM not released the API's to BeeJive, but it has released them to others?

Similarly, what is an API anyway? I presume it's some sort of code.
