Wow; you bought a BlackBerry to get AIM. To each his own.

Check out Verichat or Ramble. Both of those can help with AIM.

First off, do you have the Blackberry browser? Not that WAP browser, but the actual Internet browser. I would get this up and running first... this will insure you have the correct service turned on... of course the browser isn't necessary, but if that works, it's a good first step verifying that everything is set up right on the provider's side. It's not enough to have just the unlimited data (at least with cingular) after that you'll need to set up your APN... go to config options --)tcp -->, you're going to need something in there... for AT&T I have proxy with a null user/pass, for Cingular it's actually different... for cellular one it's different from those... each are different. Once you've got this set up you should be able to use aim.

AIM should be like when I got my terminal to work (SSH). I could browse the web just fine, but couldn't make a actual SSH connection... until I put in a APN. Do a search on this board for the thread by barjohn regarding getting this stuff to work. He even has the settings you would need for cellular one I believe.

An example of how the browser the Internet is different from something that needs an actual IP... when I browse the Internet I get a 216.9.250 address... this is an actual RIM owned address in Canada. When I SSH (and the same would be from AIM), I get a 166.220.12 address out of New Jersey. This shows how for something that needs a direct IP address will go through a proxy... if you don't go through this proxy, you can surf but not get anywhere else.

I haven't spent much time verifying the last paragraph as I just installed the terminal services... but I happened to stumble across it when I was looking at some of my logs on a unix server of ours and was wondering what IP address that was that successfully connected... then I found out it was me!

Your carrier (Suncom) has to supply the settings for TCP section in Options (APN, Username for APN, Password for APN). Mark Rejhon has a huge FAQ on all of the carrier settings, but he has no information for Suncom.

Until you get the TCP information for Suncom on how to use their APN, you will not be able to use any third party application. Contact Suncom.
