Does this really work? I mean about the VOIP calls over the Blackberry? Given the limited possibilities of EDGE, I would think that this would not work. Anyone ever used it to make SkypeOUT calls?

Look at their website, shapeservices.com. It is not voip calls over the BlackBerry. It works great. I use it mostly for Skype chat (text).

I actually did look at the website and this is what it says, "IM+ for Skype is a fully mobile application that enables voice and text communication with other Skype users and provides cost-effective calling to
landlines and mobiles."

So apparently that is what they are claiming it can do, but the limitations on EDGE and other wireless data networks contradict that.

Sorry, I was not very clear. When you use the IM+ Skype program on your BlackBerry to call to a person who is on Skype it uses SkypeOut credits (very cheap) because the Skype server actuually calls your phone to connect you to the Skype system. It can call your BlackBerry or any other phone worldwide. If it calls your mobile phone, completing the call will also cost you incoming minutes unless your phone company has free incoming calls.

Thank you, this is the correct explanation how IM+ for Skype works. It's a pleasure to hear about it from such advanced users

I think Iskoot solution is very clever. Rates to land lines are far cheaper than skype rates to mobile phone. However, shape needs landlines in every country they have customers.

I was evaluating IM+ for Skype on my 8820 but found it somehow prevented the Blackberry Infrastructure connection migrating to WiFi when connected to a WiFi access point. Strange. I removed IM+ for Skype and all is back to normal.

hrbuckley,

Probably your have a limit for Wi-Fi sessions or some other specific Wi-Fi settings set on your device, so IM+ for Skype uses all of them and nothing else can be launched.

it seems as though the only softwares available for skype is iskoot and im+skype.

does anyone know if there are any skype software for blackberry that can make a outgoing call similar to a computer. without having skype call you on your mobile phone? just using the internet and making a skypeout call?
