Default General opinion on 3rd party apps, security, viruses

Please Login to Remove!

I keep my desktop pc and my two notebooks squeaky clean when it comes to downloads. I generally don't download anything to my systems and I've never had issues with viruses, trojan horses, malware, etc. Also don't download so hidden spy apps don't get installed along with the primary app. On my bb, so far I've only downloaded a few Google services and Empower. No other apps loaded that didn't come on the bb originally.

What's the general consensus on the safety of downloading 3rd party apps on a blackberry device? It doesn't seem there is as much of a concern about malware/spy issues regarding blackberry apps. Have the virus authors not yet caught up with us (and writing viruses for the bb os) or should I be more concerned when downloading 3rd party apps to my 8830?

If you check on this site before buying any apps i think you will be fine because if software came with spyware, etc, someone would mention it here.

There are no viruses for the BB. I have not seen any spyware yet.

That's awesome. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before some jerk decides to crack the OS and start bombing us with bad stuff...

It's been years, and they have not yet. The worst crap you'll get is an odd icon pushed to you once in a while from your carrier to buy some ringtones or such.
