Default AudibleAir Beta Testing - 01-18-2008, 11:40 PM

  • Link to production version: Audible OTA
  • Please do not post a link to the beta software. It is against forum policy as well as against the wishes of our bretheren at Audible.com.
  • If you would like the beta software, you need to be a part of the official beta that audible is conducting.
  • I cannot induct you into the beta.
  • If you PM me, I can provide you the information that I used to get in, but Audible still has to approve you as a beta tester before you can get the download link.
Current Version: 1.0.72 (20080509)
Release Notes:
Quote:
  • WiFi option disappearing trick fixed.
  • Password field fixed
  • Connectivity issues fixed.
  • If memory card is present, deviceinfo.dat file is created giving
ability to activate device via USB using AudibleManager plugin. - Not yet released
These were the only changes. We did not make any improvements or other
performance changes or open bug fixes. This build should be similar to
1.0.70 with only the activation added.
Current Known issues and recommendations in order of annoyance(1.0.72 Testing in progress):
Bugs:
Quote:
  • Extra Buffering (Pause,RW,Play) - Still exists 1.0.72
  • Randomly, at the end of a section, playback stops and time index returns to beginning. - New Issue introduced in 1.0.66 probably related to new buffering code. - Unnoticed by me in 1.0.72
  • Popping - Replaced stuttering. Happens in 4min intervals. - Still exists 1.0.72
  • menus are not consistent across screens. - Still exists 1.0.72
Settings only shows up in Local Playlist and Books screen
Some screens have GoTo in the menu. Some directly specify screen
  • menu border "frame" flickers in player screen - Still exists 1.0.72
  • Bookmarks menu has a copy function, but no paste. - 1.0.72
  • Inconsistencies in bookmark time fields. Hour just replaces number. Min and Sec prompt that field is full. Recommend standardizing on one or the other. - Still exists 1.0.72
...and has gotten more odd. Now when you try to append to the hour field without clearing it, it bounces the hour and minute to the end of the book, but not the seconds. This seems like an idea that is half finished.
  • "BAD DNS" when logging in - Had to delete desktop(IPPP) service book to force connection through carrier BIS. Appears that new network connection code has introduced this error. Highly recommend changing preference to include (WiFi, BIS, BES) - Fixed 1.0.68
  • End of Book issue - Fixed 1.0.68
  • Bookmarks are storing wrong time index. - Fixed 1.0.67
  • Bookmarks are unsorted. Recommend Title Ascending and Time Descending. - Fixed 1.0.67
  • Downloads happen regardless of settings. - Fixed 1.0.67
  • Only files with lower case file extensions are recognized(.aa vs .AA) - Fixed 1.0.67
  • First letter CAPS in logon fields - Fixed 1.0.67 (still exists in User field, but it isn't CAP sensitive)
  • stuttering - Fixed 1.0.66
  • Start-up time. - Fixed 1.0.66 (Must uninstall and reinstall. Do not upgrade)
  • Book details location field always shows "phone". Does not show memory card. - Fixed 1.0.66
  • Bookmark hour Uncaught Exception - Fixed 1.0.65
  • looping - none, Fixed? 1.0.64
  • Playing without Audio - none, Fixed? 1.0.64
  • Disk Space check problem - Fixed 1.0.64
Recommended Improvements:
Quote:
  • Filters - Need list filtering for book titles
  • Bookmark sort order - Needs to be Ascending by Title and Descending by time index. Currently the newest bookmark that you would return to is at the bottom and you have to scroll. It should be at the top.
  • Enable Hard buttons for pause/play, volume
  • Bluetooth Audio - Since your audio content is mono, it could output to standard bluetooth headsets (not stereo bluetooth).
    RIM Device Java Library
  • Add preference for audio output:
    Loudspeaker/headphone
    Handset speaker
    mono bluetooth
  • Add support for AVRCP - Bluetooth remote control protocols
  • When skipping sections while playing, resume playing in new section
  • Change default option in bookmarks to "Play" instead of "update"
  • Detach trackball from direct FF and RW. Holstering is problematic. - Fixed 1.0.67
Previous Version: 1.0.71 (20080423)
Release Notes:
Quote:
  • Changed Activation process to production activation scheme.
  • Appears to have a lot of issues. Most fixes in 1.0.70 were not promoted in this build. Do not recommend this version.
Previous Version: 1.0.70 (20080307) PRODUCTION: Audible OTA
Release Notes:
Quote:
  • Redirect Download server back to production
Previous Version: 1.0.69 (20080306)
Release Notes:
Quote:
  • Implemented shorter first audio buffer
  • Bookmarks list sorting more fixes, though might need more
Previous Version: 1.0.68 (20080214)
Release Notes:
Quote:
  • Temporary redirect of subscription server to test region.
  • Fixed end of book playback cutting off. Really... I actually heard "Audible hopes you have enjoyed this program"
Previous Version: 1.0.67 (20080213)
Release Notes:
Quote:
  • New Trackball behavior.
  • Fixed Bookmarks storing wrong time index.
  • Changed password field to be masked in login to prevent first letter capitalization.
  • Fixed end of book playback cutting off. Or maybe not
  • Fixed downloads that has auto-refresh selected to be scheduled to next available auto-refresh time. If no schedules exist user is prompted with Options-form for selecting the auto-refresh time.
Previous Version: 1.0.66 (20080125)
Release Notes:
Quote:
  • Increased playback buffer to 4min. Improved buffer overlap.
  • Used the faster read function from our SDK to improve the Read
Buffering message. This should be noticed less.
  • Increased Download Buffer- Should improve download speeds even more.
  • Added Preferred network settings to Preferences. If WiFi is available
and turned on this will be preferred. If it is not available then the
regular connections are next in preference.
  • Improved menu display in library. This should reduce the flickering
    issue.
  • Fixed minor bug during playback when reaching the end and did not reset
    playback to the beginning.
Previous Version: 1.0.65 - Unstable according to Audible
Bug Fixes:
Quote:
  • Fixed issue with Bookmark hour field causing uncaught exception
Improvements:
Quote:
  • Minor Menu Changes
  • Added Delete All to Bookmarks
Previous Version: 1.0.64
Release Notes:
Quote:
  • Connection preferences priority MDS, BIS-B, HTTP over TCP - This might
have caused the error you were seeing with the 8100. To change this
you'll have to create a forcetcp.txt file and put it in main memory to
the music\audible folder - We were tweaking something for testing with
this and we haven't seen that error you mentioned yet actually.
  • Fixed Chunk Downloading on Server Side - Current Chunk Downloading is
done via BIS-B and MDS. This is a new feature.
  • Tweaked icon size
  • Moved word Time over to center on download screen
  • We are currently working on tweaking connection settings to improve
download speeds as well improve playback issues. These are the priority
    right now.

Smile Welcome! - 01-18-2008, 11:58 PM

OK, here is my first take at cleaning up what started here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/afte...tml#post682272

I am now in fairly regular contact with Audible and they are working diligently to provide a stable/robust client for the blackberry. Several folks from our community (as well as people outside our community) are testing the beta releases as they compile them. To clarify how actively they are working on this beta, some changes I requested just two days ago are now available in the current release. Here is an excerpt from audible on the subject.
Quote:
...We'd like our software to be on
par with our Windows Mobile and Palm applications which are really
advanced and the beta-group and users like you can hopefully bring us as
close to that goal as possible...
I will try to keep the top post clean and up to date. Any issues you have or any information you send to them, please post and I will try to assimilate it into a coherent list we can use to track progress. Please try to refrain from posting any links to the beta software or the names/email addresses of audible employees you are in contact with. That information should be exchanged through PMs only as this software has not been commercially released by audible and has been limited by them to a subset of people. They are being very open with what I am aloud to post and are taking all of our suggestions and issues very seriously. I do not want to take advantage of their generosity.

Great thread. Thanks for starting this post.

Have you heard when they will release another version? I am still having difficulties with getting any Beta version to work with a 4.1.0 O/S. I've let Audible know about the error messages and they're thinking that they might have to release versions based on 4.2 and above O/S and one for those below that O/S.

Nothing firm, but based on my previous conversations with them, I would guess a few days. I do not know if the long weekend will effect it or not.

In your case, I would try the 1.0.65. Also, have you tried reloading your OS? I really think that will fix your problem. I was able to load it on my 8100 the same as I did with my 8800 and 8820. There shouldn't be anything TMobile specific causing it.

Thanks Grim, great job.

Quick question. Regarding use of audible. My employer is considering letting me move from AT&T 8800 blackberry to a cell south 8830 cdma blackberry due to increased network. Is anyone currently using audible with a 8830 with cdma service successfully. If not, does anyone know if it should have any effect with audible and cdma. I don't have at&t service in my house whereas I do with cell south. Will not change if I lose audible with cell south. I will continue to forward my cell to home phone when at the house.

Thanks

From what I understand, the only problem you might have is your connection to audible to download content. If you copy it over to a microsd card, it should work fine. If no one else with an 8830 responds to you, I can load AudibleAir on a friends 8830 and try it. What is your timeframe for needing to know?

---When I first wrote this, I thought you were referring to a Verizon 8830. Sorry, but I have never heard of cell south.

Grimlin, thanks for spearheading this with Audible. I'm a current Audible customer, and would love to get it working on my 8310. I had 1.0.55 installed earlier, but it kept locking up and forcing a battery pull. I see from your first post that the latest stable version is 1.0.64, but when I try to download all I can seem to get is 1.0.57. I'd really like to install, but am hesitant to install an old version. Is there some kind of limited access?

I only download to the sd card from my computer and don't plan on downloading from audible due to preference of our IT department. Not in a major rush to change from at&t to cellular south and will take 4 to 8 weeks to make a decision. Also wondering when a new bb will come to cell south as right now they only have 8830. Might would rather have 83xx with 3.5 earpiece and gps and camera. Several have 83xx in lieu of 88xx now with at&t in our agency and I don't see reason not to change due to stereo and camera. Cellular South is a major player in MS and surrounding area with excellent network where I work, live and travel.

Thanks for help and offer if no one else is on 8830.

Yes. In order for you to get the download link, you need to be accepted into the beta program by audible. If you are interested, PM me and I will explain further. I should take this time to say that I am not employed by audible nor have they asked me to act as an official liaison. I just kinda fell into this since I am a persistent son of a . I will try to accommodate everyone as long as I do not get overwhelmed with requests. I still have a family and a job that for some reason don't fully appreciate my BlackBerry addiction...

If there are enough of us working together on this effort, we can bring this product up to where it should be. Thanks in advance to everyone that is on board. ...and feel free to let me know if I screw up.

All of the current versions out there will activate fine as far as I know. If you are experiencing a problem activating, let audible know. I also request that you post the error here as well so that we know.

I'm going to try a new O/S tonight or tomorrow and then try 1.0.65, stable or not. Worst case, I can go back to the old version.

Default audible air 8130 - 01-20-2008, 07:35 PM

i already let them know - they said its my problem - i have a large sd card so getting the stuff onto my phone is no problem with a USB cable - unfortuately, adible loggin hangs - i try it a couple of times a day - just hoping its due to overcast conditions - or maybe low flying aircraft - but to no avail. after putting in my password and loggin name (exactley as it is supposed to appear) it just says Audible Log-In (forever.....and ever). The pearl 8130 is faily new so i don't expect it to be the first to get fixed.

I assume you realize that when you enter your password, it will capitalize the first letter and you have to enter it twice and then delete first letter if it is not suppose to be capitalized or if you are capping it may be entered as small. I didn't know this and went three or four days when I first tried to make audible work on my bb.
