Default FREE PUBLIC BBCorrectorServer now open!!!! - 07-03-2005, 01:37 PM

Yes finally a FREE public server is now open for all to use......

I am hosting the first that I am aware of public BBCorrectorServer on one of my own servers.

I do not have the BB app online for an OTA transfer but you can get that OTA at
http://blackberrytools.sourceforge.net/OverTheAir/
"http://blackberrytools.sourceforge.net/OverTheAir/"

If you have any problems you can email me at [email address] also let me know if anyone uses it also, and it helps.

The server URL is:

http://www.rebreathertech.com:81/cgi...ctorServer.cgi

If you use a Nextel BB than make sure you check off the disable MDS proxy, Also the URL is case sensitive so if you get a 404 be sure you typed it in right.

Right now I am sharing the IP and Domain with two servers so if you do not put in the port of 81 in the url my other server will have no clue and will also give you an error.

I can be reached at [email address] or though my website at http://www.rebreathertech.com

Have fun and save alittle cash using the BBCorrectorServer

It works fine on my T-Mobile 7290. I had to reboot the Blackberry a couple of times in order for the Spelling option to show up on the menus (I had this issue before with BBCorrector). I'm not on BES, so I checked the Disable MDS Proxy option.

Thanks for doing this. BBSpell has more features (such as a Thesaurus and Dictionary), but for most of us, this is all we need.

While BBCorrector doesn't have a built-in thesaurus or dictionary, you could use it with an online equivalent. I'm using Merriam-Webster's Thesaurus (http://www.m-w.com/palmthes.htm) and Merriam-Webster's Dictionary (http://www.m-w.com/palm.htm). Both work well with the Blackberry browser, though you'll have to retype (or copy-paste) the word you want to lookup.

To give BBSpell its due, it lets you create custom user dictionary entries that show up as suggestions (handy for often-typed names, places, and technical terms). It also optionally supports medical, legal, and multi-language dictionaries.

Thanks Ted! Appreciate your support of the BB community and those of us especially that can't spell! I've been searching for a public spell server to give BBCorrector a try with.

Wirelessly posted (Berry: BlackBerry7290/4.0.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

I can't get corrector to show up on any menus. I've rebooted must be 20 times by pulling the battery. Any suggestions?

The connector did not show up right away on the 7520 what I had to do was reboot the BB. I did this twice in a row think it is a 4.0 bug. First time it boots quick than second time it reboots slow like it should. I have seen others have to remove the battery than it shows up.

If you go and create an email than click in the wheel after that you should see the menu item spelling.

DavidE seems to have had the same issue on the 7290 hopefully he might be able to help more.

It's my understanding that there are two levels of reboot (initiated by simultaneously pressing the ALT-CAP-Backspace keys). The first level just reboots the radio. That's why the desktop screen reappears within a few seconds. If you reboot a second time immediately after the desktop reappears, you get the full reboot, which seems to be the equivalent of removing the battery. That's the reboot that takes a minute or so before the desktop reappears.

You need to give the Blackberry a full reboot, or pull the battery, in order for the Spelling option to show up on the menus. It will be at the top of the menus in the Compose and MemoPad programs once you're at a place where you're composing a message or writing a memo. It won't be on the menus of either program until you get to that point. You may also have to reboot or pull the battery a second time for it to show up.

Hope that helps. If you still have problems installing BBCorrector, let us know.

Click the Options icon, then click Applications. Does BBCorrector show up among the listed applications?

Yes, it is listed in my applications but not on any menues. I don't have memopad installed, you think that could be the problem. I have pulled the battery maybe 30 or 40 times?

OK, try this. Click on the Compose icon. Scroll down to an entry that includes an email address (let's call it John Smith). Click to bring up the menus and select "Email John Smith" by clicking on it. You should now be on the screen where you compose the email messages. Click to bring up the menus again. Do you see "Spelling" at the top of the menus?

The only other thing I can think of is an incompatibility between BBCorrector and something else you've installed. Do you currently have BBSpell installed? They could be bumping heads.

When I do that and try to spell check, I get an error suggesting that my username and password is not correct. Not sure what the problem is. On Cingular and BES with a 7290.

Leaving them blank worked for me, though my 7290 is with T-Mobile, and I'm not using BES.

Make sure the URL is exact it is case sensitive and don't leave out the port 81 or you will goto my other server that may ask for a password.

Also if on BES they might not like the non standard port.
