Default GolfTraxx - Golf GPS Application for 88xx, Curve & Pearls - 01-24-2008, 02:10 AM

7/14 - Update

VZN users with VZ Nav CAN use GolfTraxx on the course with excellent accuracy! Send us a note if you're interested.

- - - - -

6/16/08 - Update

We now support the Pearl...

- - - - -

I just picked up a curve to test out our golf GPS application - looking for testers and early addopters.

To any/all Blackberry 8800, 8820 & Curve users - would you like to be part of a beta/demo process for a GOLF application?

Currently this is a free application and testers will be provided a one year subscription for their services. The requirements for particpation is pretty easy:

1 Own/Use a BB 88/20, or 8310/20 with GPS
2 Be a Golfer
3 Be willing to spend one hour per week with the product

This is an ideal project for an avid golfer as your experience will be highly valued. International users are also very welcome to participate.

I'm interested, but I live in a climate where I might not always get to golf every week.

Same here - won't be able to play for a couple of months until the warm weather returns to the northeast.

Thanks,

Rub it in.

Would it work with a GPS Puck? If so, I'd be willing to try (in a couple months when the weather gets warmer.)

Default Link for Testers - CURVE and 8800s - 02-12-2008, 03:13 AM

WOW, thanks for the interest... We got the Curve version up and running just this week - this is for unlocked BBs. Sorry, Verizon is a bit "difficult" to work out a solution. (IF anyone has a contact within the company send them my way as I would like to get a chance to present the app.)

Http://pdazip.com/golftraxx_blackberry.zip (app file)

A link to search which courses are already mapped by zip code

GolfTraxx: Request Trial Version and show courses by ZIP hosted pdazip.com [just change the last 5 chacters]

For those in snow country - if your local course is not mapped, here is a how to guide: (you can "test" it by walking/skiing/snowmobiling the site as well.)

http://pdazip.com/MappingCourses.pdf

Want to have a DETAILED map of your course (like one better than a PGA Tour Pro?) Use this link to learn how....

http://pdazip.com/MappingExtras.pdf

We are about a month (maybe less) from opening up our new site with user forums, some cool games/contests, stories and near real-time with a pretty cool moderator - ME.

Feel free to send me comments.

Default What will it do? - 02-12-2008, 03:19 AM

Good question

Distance to lay up & Carry multiple targets/hazards per hole
Front, back, middle of Green
Hole Distance
Par
Handicap

Due to BB UI, that is the current set of data. Our Windows Mobile, Treo versions can keep score, GIR, # of puts, etc.

We currently have well over 1K courses (primarily in the US) and are building the organization to scale to 15K, then 25K courses WW.

Think SkyCaddie without an extra device to lug around

Default BB Golfer - Puck Question - 02-12-2008, 03:33 AM

I don't know if it will work wth a Puck - our other versions (Win Mobile, Treo, etc.,) do but our BB builds were designed with the internal GPS in mind as we are looking to rid golfers of devices on their belts.

If someone can also let me know - should I respond to everyone in this thread, or just to individuals? I am thinking the group as the questions/answers might be on more than one person's mind.

I am not the 'developer' - I learned enough BASIC in college to decide that was not going to be my career - I am on the evangelism side. (Meaning I get to play with the product, talk with users, talk with money folks, manage mapping of courses, think up great idea, and ultimately get told by the developers what to do =)

Default Good news for Verizon & T-Mobile users - 02-19-2008, 02:48 AM

We got an interesting eMail from a user of a 8320 today. He has his GolfTraxx application working great on a Verizon 8320 with a bluetooth puck. I certainly would love to be able to get this using the internal GPS (and we have a few messages into Verizon), but it works good. That user is waiting for the snow to melt, but he thought enough to walk his local course today in the snow. (Yes, us golfers are addicted.)

Anyone out ther playing golf in the snow?

Default What to do waiting for the spring thaw - 02-25-2008, 04:13 AM

Sorry to hear about the snow... We had about three inches of rain here in the SF Bay Area the past couple days - courses were unplayable. So, while the snow is out there, if you would like to contribute to the course database, please consider mapping as many of your favorite courses in your area. What is really cool is that by mapping a course, you will plan your attacks, your layups and if you map courses you know well, your knowledge of the course becomes a huge asset to anyone. You become the local pro!

It CAN work with a bluetooth puck linked to a VZN phone. Lets just say that certain un-named carriers are making this difficult. But others (ATT in particular) are great to work with!

We have several users in your exact situation and they have had no issues.

If you live in snow country you can send us six courses and we will send to you a bluetooth GPS in addition to a GolfTraxx license. So, before you even have to dust off the clubs, you will be set to go! If you are in a sunny climate, then the offer still stands, but you can use it now.
