Default Open Public Beta for BARRT

Please Login to Remove!

BARRT - Blackberry Application Reregistration Request Tool

Store the name, registration number, and vendor email for all of your Blackberry applications. When you swap devices, enter and save your new PIN, and with one click of a button, generate email messages to all or to select vendors requesting reregistration codes.

Open Public Beta Version expires 3/7/2008. Beta database holds only nine application records, otherwise is fully functional.

Send comments, questions, bug reports, etc to [email address]

I originally made this for myself, but thought others might be interested. If there is sufficient interest, I'll make it available commercially after the beta period.

Find the latest version of the demo at ezreregister - BARRT The original Blackberry Application Reregistration Request Tool

although this is an interesting application, I am not sure of the security concerns of this. With a registration number and name wouldnt anyone be able to pull personal registration information from the vendors?

Security is always a concern for personal information. There are several points where a password prompt could be used. Once a user enters and saves info the app can prompt for a password whenever it's run; PIN numbers could be masked after initial entry, along with password to enable the "Send" function, and probably a lot of other good ideas others would have.

To keep this test as simple as possible, at least at the outset, I omitted security measures.

Great point though, keep them coming.

I don't really see any security concerns in something like this, but then again perhaps I'm just not devious minded enough. ;)

I don't really see an email generated by this app any less secure than an email I would send manually to do the same thing (I would still have to give my name, PIN#, etc.).

I do see possibly one negative security concern maybe, but that would be only when you have a user licence for an app where the author/vendor already offers an online PIN-switching mechanism (e.g. say like Jivetalk, EMVPro, i,CallMgr. Disclaimer: I don't really know much about how these vendors handle PIN/licence transfers, other than that they do have some sort of way to do this "self serve"). But, then again, those applications where you can switch the PIN and get a new licence online are not the applications that you would use BARRT for.

So, on the surface, I don't see any security concerns. My hat is off to the author for a great idea.

Default Demo Update

A newer version of the demo is posted - increased user email, vendor email, and application name from 25 to 30 characters each. A few minor cosmetic adjustments to the GUI.
