Default Former BES - Configuration Help Needed - 07-07-2005, 06:56 AM

I changed jobs and no longer have a BES, but still seem to have the BES IT Policy blocking connections. How can I remove this? I have done a hard reset (three times!). Here is the message I get:

"The application Ramble has attempted to open a connection to a location inside the firewall and outside the firewall which is not allowed by your IT policy"

Then I click "OK" and I get this message:

"Invalid Connection String: Permission denied"

I have done all of the configuration stuff in these threads. I was able to get my 7100g to work as an IPModem @ 115.2 kbps, so I am hopeful about getting IM to work.

TIA.

Try Options -> Firewall, choose 'Reset Settings'. Also, you might remove all your service book entries, then register to retrieve new copies.

That doesn't seem to change anything. I can not change it from "Enabled". I have removed my service books and received new ones. I have an email into my former employer's BES admin for a new policy.bin but they are unresponsive as of yet.

My friend has a 7290 and we're having trouble getting his Ramble working. Seems all of the stuff is configured, except we have port 80 on oscar, and firewall is disabled. What else could be the issue? I've had him remove the username and pw as well.

One guy mentioned a proxy setting put in the APN field. What proxy would that be?

Thank you,
Jonathan

Try configuring your cingular account like the link in the 7100g listing describes. It seems some Cingular account settings need to be modified in some cases. The modification should be free. Let me know if that solves the problem.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think it should matter. My guess is that Tmo unlimited is sufficient.

You should be able to contact your current service provider (Cingular) and have them send you a policy update that will clear out the old one.

I have a 7280 on AT&T (now Cingular) set up like the 7290:

Options -> Ramble IM -> Network Connection: Use Device TCP
Options -> Ramble IM -> TOC Host & Port: toc.oscar.aol.com:8080
TCP Configured (Yes/No): yes
APN: wap.cingular
Username for APN: [email address]
Password for APN: CINGULAR1

I've tried port 80, 8080, and 1290 to no avail. Ramble is \u0332, ver 0.9.6.2 with RIM 4.0 core. Still can't get past the "Invalid Connection String: could not open tunnel..." error message. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thumbs up Hazzah - 07-27-2005, 07:08 PM

It works!!! I got a new policy.bin from my former employer this afternoon. It even put an icon into the desktop manager for a hotlink to www.blackberryforums.com

Anyway, I wiped my handheld, got the new policy loaded, and changed my TCP to "proxy" with a blank username and password (legacy AT&T Wireless account). Set SRA Ramble config to Device Default. It worked!!!!

Thanks to all here, especially Mark Reljon for the extremely helpful information. If I can return the favor, let me know. I am a systems engineer for a company that manufactures free-space optical link equipment for high speed (up to OC48) wireless connectivity.

If you need something, I will hook you with a major discount.

Once again, thank you so much. I feel such a load off of my back.

Default 7100t "could not open tunnel" - 08-01-2005, 02:09 PM

I can't connect to Ramble. I get an error that says: "Invalid Connection String: could not open tunnel - failed". I'm on BES, does that complicate things?

Thanks!

Does ramble use SMS or data plan usage to transmit?

Found it.

I'm an idiot. Looks like you have to spell "wap.voicestream.com" correctly... On a different note, does the "Auto-away On Idle & Holstered" work? I can't get it to auto away when I put my 7100t in the holster. The holster otherwise works as expected.

Hey guys,
I am trying to get Ramble to work on my 7290. I configured just as you guys suggested in earlier posts but for some reason it's not working. I used the 7290 example, and the 7100, and neither worked. Any suggestions at all would be great.

Thanks,
MIRV

Wirelessly posted (BB 7230: BlackBerry7230/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

What is not working? Connection or other. What carrier? And settings. 7100r is Rogers?

Auto-away on Idle and Holstered appears to be malfunctioning. Some people have reported success by resetting the device after changing the setting. This and a number of other bugs fall into the 'Alerts & Notifications' bug category that at some point will receive a major overhaul.

This also depends on wheter or not you work for Cingular. Myself and several others found this out yesterday. We are connected to our BES, and had to set things up like this:

Cingular 7290
Cellular Plan: ?
Options -> Ramble IM -> Network Connection: Use Device TCP
Options -> Ramble IM -> TOC Host & Port: toc.oscar.aol.com:1290 - This is only change we made.
TCP Configured (Yes/No): yes

I know it's a little thing but it can be frustrating when attempting to ge this program working. Thanks Barney for the tip!
