Nokia tried their hand at it and the results stunk. Of course it wasn't for Blackberry, but it shows that it's not an easy thing to do. The Treo's Threaded SMS is the gold standard. RIM should either license it and port it over or rip it off completely.

So what software manufacture would be good to start an email campaign to get threaded sms? I am getting a centro for my wife and would love to have the same or similar threaded sms as she does or just the same format.

The 8830 has somewhat of a threaded sms.. But no where near as good as the treo.. Thats the only thing I miss about the treo tho that and the ability to send the same text out to multiple people very quickly.

I hear and read this all the time about leaving a Treo. There has to be someone that will develop a threaded sms software. There is software for everything out there but this on blackberry. hmmm...

maybe the Sprint 8830 has something, I haven't seen anything like that on my Verizon 8830. As for multiple recipients, you can do that, once the SMS is written select the menu button and there is an Add Recipient option, I have done it to 20 or 30 people and it works great, just keep adding recipients.

why cant you do this on the BB? just hit menu > add receipient while in the message. you can send to 10 at a time i believe. ive sent 1000 text messages in a matter of minutes. (funny story on that, sent the same person 1000 text messages because he kept spamming me with forward texts after i asked him to stop. he was receiving text messages for hours)

Can i send to [email address] and to [email address] and to [email address] all at one time? Can you create a group for faster texting? Are all these included in the data plan. When I was on the 7100 on nextel you couldn't send to these as it was considered mms.

blackberry already comes with threaded sms on per contact basis. on my 8707 i have configured the sms to show previous 50 sms. thats the max it goes. and everytime i open the sms it will show the previous 50sms that i have sent and received for that particular contact.

isnt that what threaded sms is? i havent used a treo so i dont know how does it work.

Cheers

Basically, the Treo SMS is similar looking to an AIM chat, more than text messages. It was so nice, thats the only thing i miss!!!!

I hear this alot on the sms for blackberry . I really would like to find a software manufacture that could duplicate this.

The conversations look similar. The real cool thing is that with the Treo there is only one message that keeps getting added to and re-forwarded. If you look at a conversation on the BB and want to save it, it's 20 or 30 (or more) separate messages in the message folder. On the Treo it's just one. So much better for archiving and searching. The format during the conversation is better on the Treo also, but that's a minor thing.

when you go into the SMS messaging option on the Treo, it doesnt have 400 texts that you have to sift through, i jus has a list of conversations, I would actuaqly compare it to BBMessenger. It is set up the exact same way as that, without the contact list separate from the address book. Its set up as a conversation, compared to the BBs messaging, where it just adds the last xx messages to the newest one.
