Default Jmirc won't connect with my new data plan.

Please Login to Remove!

I just got a data plan today but when I try to connect to jmirc, it doesn't work. I get this error: *** Error trying to connect to ITC server, aborting... Exception: Unable to open connection.

Any ideas?

Is this BIS data plan or just regular data?
Do jmirc have any options to chose TCP / BIS?

If you have BIS, can you use the browser? If not, resend servicebook from the carrier.blackberry.com site.

If regular data without BIS you need to setup this at options -> Advanced -> TCP

Guessing your in US, then you can try these settings.
T-mobile (US)
T-Mobile (Internet)
APN:internet2.voicestream.com
Username: [blank]
Pass: [blank]

If you want to be sure, contact your carrier.

I had the same message as scott, so I followed your directions sci, and now I'm receiving a new error message of the following:

***Error trying to connect to http proxy server, aborting... Exception: Open tunnel - failure

I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me solve this problem!

I was wondering if it was possibly due to the settings under:
Advanced>Character Encoding
Where it was defaultly set at: ISO-8859-1

I'd like to request that someone either skilled with BB applications in general, or someone skilled with jmIrc could make an in depth guide for jmIrc from start to finish, starting with how to download, which also troubled me at first. I had to use the Beta link.

Thanks in advance,
-Dave

Unhappy Had the same problem

Hi,
I had the same problem on the weekend; it turns out that data access for third-party apps is not turned on by default. You'll need to call T-Mobile and ask them to enable it.

Which is what I did. So things like Blackberry Maps, or Google Maps now work fine, but jmirc still doesn't connect.

Now I get things like
Code:
*** Error trying to connect to IRC server, aborting...
Exception: Malformed Address, Returning null connection
Occasionally tho', it will connect, but then it looks like (?) the IRC server boots me. I see things like:
Code:
-cosmos.esper.net- *** Found your hostname
*** Disconnected from server
If anyone else has solved this, please, share!

Thanks!

I was already previously allowed data access to third party sites, so I don't think its that, I'm stuck with the "open tunnel exception". Obviously many are plagued with jmIrc problems so I really think its time for one of u crackberry addicts (lol) to help us please! For the good of BB Internet Relay Chat!!!

Where can I download virca, I'm currently on my BB where I do the majority of my browsing, cuz for me computer use is limited, so searching holds less promise than you just linking me hehe :p

Also, what does the V and A in virca stand for?
