Default Verichat OTA - 07-12-2005, 01:16 PM

After upgrading my 7100T to OS 4.0.2.32 I tried to get Verichat via OTA. I am receiving the following error message:

Error: Invalid manifest or application descriptor.

Anyone have any thoughts? I went ahead and downloaded it and installed it through the desktop, but was curious what the problem may be.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7100/4.0.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

Was there a bes update for 4.0 along with the device update? I know my bes server is on 4.0 already. Any other thoughts?

I'm getting this error as well. I'm not having this with any other OTA downloads, so I'm curious if this is specific to VeriChat. I stripped the JAD file down to the bare minimum just in case it had some sort of faulty entry, but that didn't help. I tried to install from the OTA site through both the MDS and TMO browsers, as well.

I have tried the 2 browsers as well with no luck. I also have no problems with other OTA sites.

I haven't tried uninstalling verichat then trying to download it OTA, but if I do that I am not sure I can get back on the latest beta.

Let me know if you figure anything out or hear anything.

Talking my work around - 07-29-2005, 06:09 PM

well what i did to get the version on the OTA was down load the jad file on my desktop and looked at it in note pad to see what files it is pulling from the server. Then manually downloaded all 8 though you really only need to download 2 the Verichat.cod and teh verichatutils.cod. here is what the jad file looks like.

all you have to do is download the trail if you haven't and decompress the file the download the OTA files to your desktop by open a browser and putting Http://www.pdaapps.com/ota/Verichat.cod, VeriChatUtil.cod, ETC... it will ask you to download then download them and replace the ones in the trial pack you downloaded that are older than these. WARNING THE SERVER IS CASE SENSITIVE so how it is in the jad is how it needs to be in the adress bar. then use the apploader and point it to where the files all are make sure teh ALX is in there so you can load it. after doing this you should be updated to 2.48b that what my blackberry said after all was said and down and if you are having trouble i have it packed up and if you pm me your email i will send it to you. well have a nice day
and may the FORCE BE WITH YOU lol j/k

that is way too much work..

loading a single pointer file should be all that is needed, in all honesty.

Way too much work and doesn't really explain the cause of the problem. But thanks chief for helping.

There appears to be a bug in this specific version of RIM's OS because of which it give error on OTA, and we are trying to workaround that bug. In the meantime, if you want to be on the latest VeriChat beta, drop us an e-mail at [email address], and we will e-mail you a build to install via Desktop.

Thanks,

a bug in the OS versus a bug in the way you have implemented OTA? you kidding me? we can all download other programs via OTA, not yours, and you think it's RIM's fault?

nice try

you do realize that people can download the application from the PDAApps website, right? and i can see both sides of the OTA download issue - i was able to download it just fine a few months ago on OS 4.0, but now i cannot on OS 4.0.2.

jibi do you see the 4.02 updates coming for all bbs or is it something targeted at problems on the units you use.

i've only seen it with the 7100 models... i haven't tested with any other, though.

i have emailed PDAapps the fix for this, but anyhow...

i'm not sure if this affects pre-4.0.2 versions or not, as i don't have one to test here, BUT... the issue with the OTA is the line that says MIDlet-Version. for whatever reason, the value of this option can only have a numerical value (a period is okay, as well) - no letters. so either the update to 2.48b coincided with the upgrade period between 4.0 and 4.0.2 or something changed in 4.0.2 that made the value of the field strictly numerical.

i think PDAapps will fix it on their side, and you will be able to download their application over-the-air once again.

I just loaded up the simulator for 4.0, and you are able to load the JAD file OTA with the MIDlet-Version of 2.48b. It appears that this is only an issue with the 4.0.2 code.
