I believe in the US, you need to inform the calling party that you'd be recording a conversation... otherwise it's a serious privacy violation.

Besides there being a lack of software for the BB to record a conversation, I'd imagine that there's many other factors preventing this type of system from being implemented.

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

It's true though, as long as ONE of the individuals is privy to the information the call is being recorded... and it varies from state to state.

Agreed, this is the legal requirement. While somewhat foolish, I suspect that it is in place to keep from blatant wiretapping by, e.g., an employer.

While it may be legal to tape, my rule of thumb in these matters has been to focus on ethics -- where informing all parties is the best policy.

it does vary state to state. for instance here near DC you only need to notify the party that recording is taking place. (either verbally or with a beep)

If you need to record a conversation, you can use Grand Central. They've covered their collective rears and there is an audible beep. (not sure of the dbs) I think there may be a voice message indicating that you're recording too. Just played with that feature once many months ago and my memory is a bit fuzzy...

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Actually it varies state to state

In virginia it is a one party means only one person has to know (which can be you) the recorder

Some states are two party which means you have to inform the other party that you are recording

Not sure on the legalities but there was a great program available for the Palm platform called CallRec. It stored all conversations on the memory card until the user synched and then transfered to the computer. Not sure of one available for BB but would be interested as well.

Here in NYC you have to let the other party know if you're going to record the conversation and vice versa.

here in CA you do not need to inform the other party. and it is admissable as evidence in court if needed.

Besides the legal issue.

Is there any application that can do this?

Our phones at work have record built in to them, and we can toggle the beep on/off. Legal has informed us there is not need to tell someone we are recording their call. In my case it is typically for reference not legal reasons.
